Hi all...

I am interested in playing ISO code games on my new PSP. It would seem that in order to do that I need to downgrade my firmware to a customized version. Before I attempt to do that what will be the impact to my PSP?

Some of my concerns are:

1) Will I loose the ability to play UMD games?

2) Will I loose my Wi-Fi capabilty?

So in a nutshell will I loose any functionality by downgrading my PSP in order to play ISO images?

Thanks in advance.

*** WORD OF CAUTION *** I don't think this can ever be said enough. please make sure you take your time and do it right. I bricked a few PSPs when i first tried installing CFW. trust me, its no fun having to do all the extra modding to fix a bricked unit just because you missed a step in the upgrade.

CFW is fantastic. Just yesterday, following a nice detailed thread on here, I turned my battery into a Pandora's Battery (the physical method), made the magic stick and went from 3.72 OFW to 3.71 m33 :D.

Is fantastic... been playing ISOs of my own games while I download some homebrew games.

Zero damage! 100% wickedness! Can't recommend it enough, and I've only been playing with CFW for about 10 hours all up.

Thnak you all for your responses...OK I'm sold. Now the next part:

My PSP details are:

System Software = 3.51 (original)
Motherboard = IC1003 (a.k.a TA-082)

From reading the "DOWNGRADE GUIDES FOR ALL FIRMWARES" and in particular thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/553863 it would seem that in order to downgrade my PSP I will require:

1) A spare PSP battery (recommended) , any make will do .
2) A spare memory stick PRO DUO (it has to be PRO DUO)
3) A PSP with Custom firmware ( OE or M33) or a 1.5 PSP. Ask you friends , search for one

Furthermore, it would seem there is no way of getting around making your battery into a "Pandora's" battery and having access to a PSP with custom firmware on it (or at least the MS of a downgraded PSP).

So once again to summarise:

1) I have to make a battery into a Pandora's battery. There is the s/w method and the h/w method.

2) Downgrade the software to v1.5 (or v3.71 M33-2 the latest) by using the MS of an already customized PSP).

Is all the above correct?

Once again...thank you in advance for your support.

In order to make a magic memory stick is it NECESSARY to place it into a PSP which is already running 1.5? Is it possible to download the files which will create the magic memory stick from the internet?

I am assuming the format process and subsequent steps have to be done on a PSP running a CFW rather than just downloading somebody else's files from the internet...I though I'd ask anyway :-)

PS - Does the PSP running a CFW have to be on 1.5 or can it be on the latest CFW release i.e v3.71 M33-2?

I have never done a pandora's battery, however i only bought a PSP approx a yr ago, for the fact that i could put CFW on there, and i must vouch for it...it really is awesome, the amount of things you can do are just great - makes the PSP the best portable console imo.

I remember in the beginning when i put 1.5 on there and i could only get some of the games working, some others i used devhook for but some not at all. Ive recently gone to 3.71m33-3 and now i cant find a game that wont work.

Definately put yours onto CFW, oh and i admire the amount of research you are doing before you do it.

Nah. The MS can be done with a normal PSP.

Yes. It is more than possible to download the files from the internet. Search around here or google for them. There is a couple of very elaborate guides within these forum walls that will cover everything for you. I know this as I was a complete n00b not even a week ago and I have already done the hard modded battery (have returned it back to a standard battery) and gone to a m33 firmware.

Sorry if I'm not much help. Still a n00b... just learnt a bit.

Xamph seems to confirm that a Magic MS can be created by simply copying the files (and subdirectories) from a CFW PSP's MS.

If this is the case then it would mean that you could remove the requirement of having access to a PSP which was running a CFW version. You would then only need to create the Pandora's battery and then downgrade your PSP to a CFW.

Would somebody else like to comment.

Has anybody every tried this?
Can somebody let me know where I can download the magic MS files? Or maybe somebody can put files out there for download.

Anybody..?

The magic stick can be created using a card reader if you really want.

The only reason you need a CFW PSP when it comes to Pandora is to softmod a battery.

If you do not have access to a CFW PSP, you can hardmod (open up the battery)

You will only need Pandora's Battery if you are running FW 3.50 or higher.

DOWNGRADE GUIDES FOR ALL FIRMWARES

The below guide is how to downgrade a PSP without a CFW PSP on hand.
DOWNGRADING WITHOUT A CFW PSP

I personally used a combination of information from the above guide and one from the multiple guides section.

I'm pretty sure I have hit the nail on the head.

You wont brick your PSP if you use Pandora. That's a 100% for sure answer. Because even if you do anything wrong, you have Pandora and you can just boot up the menu again!

Ok I get it...There is ABSOLUTELY no way of getting around the requirement of using a PSP with CFW.

I think that about does it for now.

A big thanks to all who responded to my queries.

Bye for now...

You can get around it... just means you have to hardmod a battery.

Which is not an appealing option for me...the margin of possible error (the oops factor!) is too great.

Thanks for the "technically..." note.

I will definately continue to use this forum for all my PSP needs.
