I have the V9 PS2 and was cleaning it one day when I got up to get more coffee. What do I find when I got back??? My niece had desided to turn some gears!!! These gears set the highth of the bars the eye runs on. This version of PS2 has a gear for each bar and no motor for auto-adjust. I spent hours trying to adjust it myself. I know, I know...shouldn't have left the room. I have searched the net and posted in countless forums looking for anyone who can help me find the right adjustment. A guy that runs a small game store offered to "try" fixing it, BUT, would charge $25. If he said '$25 if I fix it' I would. Is there anybody here that can help me? I would be forever grateful^_^

Play the game...don't just look at it >.<

Lower both gears all the way and try one click at a time until you find the "Sweet spot". Be sure to that when you turn the right gear, to turn the left one space too. Its usually the middle.

I don't see why setting them all the way down and adjusting them from there would not work. Are you sure the laser is lighting up and moving freely on the worm gear? Your last resort that may take forever but is most likely a guaranteed fix is to set gear at level 1 and try the other gear at all settings and keep repeating it by changing the first gear by 1 until you find the sweet spot.

Yeah, the laser works fine.I believe you're right. That is pretty much the only option I have. Wish I could get paid for the hours I'm going to be putting in it, lol. Thanks for the help just the same^_^ The other post i put in different forum sites never even attempted to try and help. Once again, thanks for the help =D

Your welcome for the help and let me know how it goes, if you attempt to fix it or if you buy a used one from gamestop (about $70)

Sorry for not replying for so long. I really haven't had time for anything, too much work. Ummm...how do I know when I've hit the "sweet spot" and which gear is supposed to be turned? I have been turning the left gear more and just want to be sure I'm doing it right, lol.

This site below should have every thing you can possibly do to a laser.

The site has a lot of info, thanks. My problem is mine is a version 9 with two angle gears with no auto adjust. Both had been set all the way down. I've been trying to go through the gears one at a time when I have spare time, but, I'm not sure what the "sweet spot" is or even know what to look for in case I do find it =( The site above is a guide for a PS2 that needs minor adjustments...mine needs a full overhaul, lol.

NO wrong....DO NOT EVER ADJUST THE COG WHEEL!!!!

GO here to see my guide on cleaning off the mirror UNDER the lens.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqet_dKHxH8

The wheel was a good idea from others but not what causes the DREs.

I have fixed many PS2s using this method!

The whole thing stank...but our noses have been out in the cold for too long.

Ummm...my PS2 has two cog wheels and they had already been adjusted all the way down causing it not to read disks of any kind. In this case the angle settings is infact the cause for the DRE.

Yeah well, that is a temporary fix, it only changes the part of the laser that is used not fixing the actual obstruction of the laser. You dumbass clean off the mirror like I say and put the wheel in the same starting position I bet you IT IS the cause of the problem, I knew some jerk would argue with me, your an idiot I adjusted that wheel in the past, watch my vid for ownage.

This just shows you didn't read my first post. I DID NOT MESS WITH THE GEARS!!! They were adjusted all the way down by my niece, I don't know the correct settings and without the correct them it will not play......and I watched your video. Where does it say anything about how to go about setting the gears??? It dosn't, which is what I need. If you had read the whole thread you would know what I need instead of harassing me over your own ignorance of the situation. It takes a true idiot to not read all posts in a thread and reply to a problem the thread has nothing to do with. I have NO CHOICE but to mess with the gears to set the laser angle.

If you have Disc Reading errors and have adjusted the wheels already it is not too hard to get them back to a neutral position, sorry I misunderstood but when you do get the gears back to normal make sure to clean the mirror, if you had watched the whole thing I fixed the problem not just that one time but at least 3 different units all not reading different kinds of discs were fixed, again sorry about that.

If you are still having trouble, the "sweet spot" is located each time you make an adjustment to a wheel (one click at a time), load a disc until the the unit begins to read the disc, tedious process, but it works. Good luck!
