I have an epia-m mini itx motherboard running windows xp pro sp2. I am using all integrated parts: sound, graphics, ethernet, ect. Most of the time it works fine. Sometimes when I turn it off, it messes up the graphics driver. It doesn't say anything, but when I turn it back on, the problem shows up. It gets to the windows loading screen, then goes black forever. The monitor shows no signal. The sound still works and I hear the boot up sound. Also, numlock, caps lock, ect work, so windows has loaded, but the graphics do not work. The only way I found to fix this is a system restore.
This happens with a normal shutdown or a power loss. Both can cause it. Also, it is random. It works sometimes, and other times it goes black and I have to restore it.
I have the correct gfx driver for the motherboard. I don't know how the gfx driver is changing and not working. Windows auto update is off and I have not changed the gfx driver in any other way. It just randomly changes on its own.
It boots up fine in safe mode. This means it is not hardware. I think it is the driver causing the problem since the gfx driver is not loaded in safe mode.
Any idea how to fix this? I have tried reformatting and reinstalling the gfx driver. I also tried continually restarting and shutting down. I can't find any pattern or reason why it corrupts.
