I've been looking around and have decided on a course of action just wanted to put it to my peers first, and ask a question or two.
I have a PalWii updated to 3.0e, and a wiikey with the original firmware, I want to play my backup of SMG so I need to update my Wiikey to 1.9g (is it ok to go from original to 1.9g, or should I go to 1.9b first)
I'll have to do this using a GCOS disk for this and for the 1.3 config disk.
Will I have to use the hacked 1.2 config disk as well to put region free on so I can use the 1.3 config disk.

PS anyone know where I can get the "make-multiv3" executable max console want me to register to download it.
Thanks for the reply, about 5 mins too late I got impaitent and I installed 1.9b, I didn't need the gcos disk but I did need the hacked 1.3 config disk every things working fine but I was thinking of waiting a bit to update to 3.1e just wait a little while to play SMG and see what the folks at wiikey come up with don't fancy messing with gcos
i kind of have a similar situation, I put in my Super Mario Galaxy backup and I accepted the update for the game, but SMG wont work. "unauthorized device" or something like that shows. So now I have version 3.0e (and i have v1.2 wiikey firmware)and when i put in a game such as metroid: corruption, i get a new message that says "Important: if you do not want to accept this upgrade, you can shut down your Wii console and cancel the upgrade by holding down the Power Button for four (4) seconds. If your Wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console." I'm terrified to do this update, will it brick my console? and if it's just an empty threat, then am i able to still update my wiikey firmware to 1.9g so i can play my super mario galaxy backup????
I can't say too much as I have my original copy of SMG and backup sitting here and I wont play it as I don't want to install the new update, for fear of those reports that your other backups wont play.
I think you can still put the new update 1.9g onto a 3.1 console by using a GCOS method, this is outlined in the thread below,
