first i would like to say that this is an amazing forum. ive been reading everything and its wonderful how helpful everyone is here.

as i said, i have been reading everything but i would like to clarify 1 thing; my wife bought my son a psp slim version 3.71. i have been following the how im supposed to mod it but i want to make sure that i dont have to do anything first before i start following the guide for the universal unbricker. im assuming thats what im supposed to use since its a virgin 3.71.

hopefully, ill get it right the first time and wont have to keep posting. (my son's 360 just got the ring of death so im in the middle of trying to fix that too). :(

again, thx for a reply. i have read thru the guide but i just want to make sure that i dont miss something since its a virgin psp with no homebrews on it already.

For the Universal Unbricker you need

1 PSP Fat Battery
1 Fat PSP with Custom Firmware already
1 Memory stick from 256mb-1gb

If you dont have any of these, well you can go to ebay and buy one package of Memory and Battery, thats all I can say and you will be good following the guide on the top of the forum list... sorry that is as much as I can tell you now, cause I dont want to get into details ifyou dont have any of the above mentioned.

PSP (+[__]%): 2.80 < 1.50 > 3.40OE-A > 3.71M33-4 > 3.80m33-5 > 3.90m33-3 > 4.01m33-2 + 8gb MSPD
PS3 HD 60GB: 1.33 > 1.90 > 2.01 > 2.17 - NO OS
Nintendo DS [+[__]%]: EZ Flash 5 Plus + 1GB MicroSD + EZFlash 3in1
Nintendo Wii: 3.2U + 1GB SD Card + WiiKey 1.9s

Just try it, use the new Universal Magic Stick, otherwise the package I meant is a service, where you send the battery and stick and get it converted, anyways try it with the universal Magic stick and attempt it, it should work.

The reason you need a PSP FAT/SLIM with custom firmware is so you can run the applications that creates the Magic Memory Stick (Universal unbricker) and Pandora Battery. Those applications are not signed by Sony so they will not run on a official firmware PSP. Only signed applications will run on them.

In a sorts its the same as an Xbox 360. In order to play backup games you need a Modchip to circumvent the copy protection. Well the PSP is similar but it uses a softmod (Custom firmware) to circumvent the copy protection that allows you to run homebrew and other applications on the PSP that are not official PSP applications.

Hardmod = Modchip or some sort of modification to the physical part of the product.

Softmod = a modification to the software of the product with no physical modification needed.

There is a way to create the Magic Memory Stick without the PSP needing custom firmware but you would then have to do a Hardmod to the Battery to get it into service mode.

You would be better off sending a Memory Stick and Battery to someone close to your location so they can make a Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick for you to install the custom firmware onto your son's SLIM PSP.

Where is your location region? This way someone could PM you and let you know if they are close and could offer to help out. Most of the members on this forum will do this for free. All you have to do is send the Memory Stick and Battery to them via mail and pay shipping cost both ways.

You could also try to find a friend or family member that has a PSP with custom firmware installed on it already and ask them to try to modify the Magic memory Stick and Battery.

Don't buy any Batteries or memory Sticks off Ebay. They tend to be fake most of the time.

I PMed you a message mrjamel40.
