Hey, I bought one of those ps3 cooling systems a couple months ago. It's a Nyko Intercooler: http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=93

After the first week it started to make wierd noises but stopped after about 5 mins so I assumed it had to do with "warming up" the cooler or something like that (kinda sounds like a propellor plane taking off) so all was fine but then last week it started making a new sound as well as the old sound so now I have two sounds to deal with both of which go away after like 5 min. So my question is, does anyone have this product and if so are they experiencing these sounds too? And are they normal?

**This is also my second one, the first one I had made the same first sound and I thought the sounds meant it was broke so I took it back and exchanged it, and got a new one now this one is doing the same thing.

I had one and posted a thread awhile back. To me the intercooler made no difference in the temperature. Also go to the 360 section of this forum and look at the sticky about the Nyco intercoolers and the horror stories about what they did to peoples xboxs. I personally would take it off and leave it off unless your installing the switch mod like the guy did in the swap switch sticky in the ps3 section(sorry I don't remeber who did it but I love that version of the mod).

Im just sketchy that my ps3 will overheat even though I know it has a boss-ass cooling system.

A guy I've been playing with for years has rarely turned his off since the release of folding@home. He has well over 500 work units completed leaving his ps3 on for weeks at a time without overheating problems. I myself have never had overheating problems. I used to get scetched out too because the spot in the front right underside gets warm but I believe thats normal. There are other intercoolers other than Nyco BTW.

I know I was on IGN and they gave this one a good rating so I thought I'd try it.

I love the design of it, but run it at full speed while playing a game then take the intercooler off and feel the spot in question. IMO I couldn't tell a difference. To answer your first question though (sorry I got a little off track) mine never did make any funny noises.

I think it might be the way it's installed though (not that I can see how you can muff it up) cause when I take off the intercooler and assemble it by itself it runs smoothly but the second I put it back on the plane takes off.

WOW, never buy Nyko intercoolers. They break 360s and NOW they break PS3s.

I would never put any type of additional external fan as it would do a couple of things

1) Block a portion of the area that is needed to flow air away because of the fans themselves. Kind of like those crappy "tornado" air flow devices for cars that supposedly help air flow but only make flow worse as they are an obstruction to the flow.

2) If the air flows at a certain rate out of a device then an additional fan will only impede that flow or do no additional "work" or could possibly produce a negative pressure and hinder flow more.

3) With all the development behind the PS3 it has been engineered properly for the dispersion of heat issues unlike another console which was rushed...and even then there have been known issues with a cooler on the 360.

Well thanks all for the heads up, from now on I'm checking here before I make purchases so that I don't waste 35 bucks again...
