I am in a bind and I don't know what to do. I put in my Super Mario Galaxy backup and I accepted the update for the game, but SMG wont work. "unauthorized device" or something like that shows. So now I have version 3.0U (and i have v1.2 wiikey firmware)and when i put in a game such as metroid: corruption, i get a new message that says "Important: if you do not want to accept this upgrade, you can shut down your Wii console and cancel the upgrade by holding down the Power Button for four (4) seconds. If your Wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console." I'm terrified to do this update, will it brick my console? and if it's just an empty threat, then am i able to still update my wiikey firmware to 1.9g so i can play my super mario galaxy backup????

If the game is from the same region as your console it will be ok.
It's just a new disclaimer The Big N are packaging with the new update to scare people with modchips and also so they have no legal recourse although I couldn't see anyone trying to fight that in court.
Just a couple of questions:
Are you sure your Wii is at 3.0 after updating with SMG it should be 3.1.
Have you updated or used a config disk on your WiiKey / are you sure its a WiiKey some people have found that unscrupulous modders have put other chips in.
If your Wii is at 3.0 and you have a WiiKey you should be able to update it straight from the downloaded disk as normal, if not then you should try the method in this thread its at the bottom posted by "tyler1993",

actually, SMG, at least on the original disc I bought, only updated the system to 3.0U. i think 3.1U is only via the internet...unless there are multiple batches of SMG with different updates (dunno, mine was purchased on black friday).
weird that Metroid is still asking you for an update as I thought that was v2.2U? or am I interpreting you wrong tatooee?
but in any case, it would be ok to update. and your wiikey should update/work if using the method posted in that link. (though, at this point, I believe it will still be working, minus the ability to use the 1.2 setup disc -- or play an SMG backup).

The update that came on the disc with smg should update you to 3.1, not 3.0. It does come on the disc, because I am at 3.1U and I have not used the internet to apply that update

that's why i posed the theory that there might be two batches, or even more interesting, if the prereleased version had an update they deemed wasn't ready. i'm telling you, not thinking, that I have 3.0U after the update. for what reason others might have 3.1U, i don't know, but that's what it gave me. my question to those on 3.1U from the disc is whether it came from a store-bought version, or a backup.

I'm not understanding this whole bricking due to smg, I have never had any problem with my wii EVER, I stick to my region of games and i've never had problems, I even have smg working on my wii, and it still plays ALL backups fine, so I don't see how a bug can effect one wii and not another.

Jnaks: I have exactly the same situation. I've updated using the SMG game and now I have 3.0(E if I'm not mistaken). I wanted to play Pokémon Battle Revolution and I get the same screen as you. I'm not sure to do the upgrade because I'm not a 100% sure that it's a PAL disc.
Then again, it works on a friend of mine's Wii and he has a Cyclowiz (I have a Wiikey).

What system do you have tatooee? Your best sticking to your own region games on the Wii as if you update a NTSC game on a PAL system you can brick your Wii, and Mario can do this.
