Will the PS3 ever be able to play backups or is it a pipe dream? It seems irrelevant to play burned PS3 games as the price of Blue-Ray is outrageous, but what about the hard drive and it's promise. I've done some research and it doesn't look too good right now.

If you ask me the first back ups will be on bluray disks and not on hard disk.
But who cares... by the time back ups would be viable a blank bluray disk will cost 3$ a piece. And a burner will be 150$ max.
So regarding back ups there are bigger problems than the cost of media.

He said "backups" so that would mean he is intending to buy the originals......unless you some how read his mind and know otherwise.

Just for the record it's Blu-Ray not Blue-Ray. I have no idea how they will get around the 4GB or more files can't be used because it's FAT32. Maybe Blank Blu-ray's will drop in price.. since they are pretty new.
