I don't have a dvd rom and a dvd rw to copy burn a dvd but i have a dvd rw and a cd rom so I took out the file from the original dvd and saved it in my computer and it's an img file but none of the programs that i have can't run it and i don't know how to put the img file on to the dvd even with Nero. I tried to put the file on to the dvd by making a data disc but it won't run like an actual dvd movie. When I try to open it by going in to E:, there's an img file but i can't run it or anything. Please help me because i already failed burning a dvd and I don't want to waste money again

Actually, you don't copy dvd directly from a dvd-rom to a dvd-rw drive. First, you need to decrypt and compress the files using ripping software, DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter, to hard drive before copying to dvd-r disk. Anyway, what dvd ripping software are you using?

Acer 800Lci notebook 1.3 Ghz Pentium M, 512Mb DDR ram. Pioneer DVR-106D USB External.

You only need 1 dvdrw drive to do the process. The 1st have rips or copys it to the HD, the second half burns it back to the same drive. Download DVDSHrink and the guides found on this site to get started. You will need Nero 5.5 or Version 6 to burn back to the blank. Jerry

gettosamo, Glad you got it going. X copy works good, sometimes gives you problems. Try some of the other software when you have time. I started out using X copy, but now hardly ever use it. Several better programs out there that let you do more. Good luck Jerry

Dvdshrink is the most common choice because it is totally free. It rips to HD and decrypts. You need something like Nero 6 or Record now to burn back to the blank. My 1st choice if I were to buy more software would be Anydvd and CloneDVD which work together. This combo is very good and easy to use. Most have a free trial period so you can try them out.
