Has anybody heared about these other mod chips? Do they work for playing backups?

Yes those are open source mod chips. You can program your own chips if you have a compatible programmer and PIC chips.

Is the programmer expensive? These only require 4 wires to solder.

5 wires actually.

You can buy programmers on Ebay. It's a JDM one IIRC.

After I build the circuit and wire it up to the Wii, do I need to program the chip? If so where do I get the software? Are they as good as the D2Ckey?

Are these the programmers?

As long as the programmer says that it can program the specific PIC that you are going to use, then it's fine.

Yes you need to program the chip in order to use it of course.

I prefer to use YAOSM myself as they try to keep up to date. They recently released a fix for SMG so it works now.

Is YAOSM a chip or a group of people working on this? I take it you are using this method instead of D2Ckey. What method do you like better? 5 wires to solder is a lot better than 29 small, tight soldering points.

YAOSM stands for Yet Another Open Source Modchip

Uh D2CKey is just for D2C Wiis.

Well of course it's easier with any chip pre-D2C. With the flexPCB that is coming out for the D2CKey I think that will make the install easier, though.

I went to the link but I can't tell if YAOSM will work with the D2C chip. YAOSH from Scratch" seems to indicate that it will not. Do you know of a tutorial that discribe the steps in programming the PIC and then the installation of the PIC for a D2C chip?

Sorry to say this but no it will not work on a D2C Wii.

The only modchips that will work with the D2C are either the D2CKey or the new Infectus chip.
