Hi everyone, I'm needing a quick question answered I hope someone can help me out. I have a Wii that I just modded a few weeks ago, the mod went great with no problems. Here is the thing that confuses me though, before the wiikey was installed I had already updated my Wii to the 3.0 firmware, so the update disks that I made won't work, it shows the disk as a gamecube game but the screen is black. I decided not to bother with updating my wiikey at that point and would worry later about it. The past few weeks all the backup games and regular games work great no problems. Okay here is what confuses me though, my son for Christmas is getting Super Mario Galaxy "from Santa" and now after reading more about SMG and the update it installs when you play it, I'm worried that the update SMG makes on the Wii will it stop my Wiikey from working right since its not updated? Do I need to update my Wiikey first and how do I update it. I've read something about a boot disk has to be made before I can update my wiikey since I already had version 3.0 on my Wii. Also do I need to just update the Wiikey with 1.9 updates? I'm confused and just don't want to mess up my Wii or the Wiikey in anyway. Please help if anyone knows I'd love to hear more! Also I have an original Wiikey and my Wii I've had since the day they first lauched in the US last year if that helps to have that information.
I had a similar setup to this, I installed a WiiKEy in a system at 3.0e, I updated the WiiKey normally to 1.9b, I then used this disk posted by AtiLaw (thread below) to use the config disk to set regionfree on and then everything worked fine, you should be able to use the same method but using 1.9g instead of 1.9 b.
Thank you for replying!! I appreciate the thread you sent to me too. I will read through it and try it out tonight. Crossing my fingers all will work fine!
Thanks!
i can tell you definitively, that it works with 3.0U. i can say that because i updated the wiikey to 1.9b, used setup disc 1.3, and then updated using the SMG original disc. it took me up to 3.0U -- not 3.1U like many are saying. i have yet to confirm if someone has used the original US SMG disc to update and gotten 3.1U -- most have just used the backup version. but for you, that's probably inconsequential. with 3.0U and your backups currently working fine, you'll probably be ok.
I updated my unmodded wii with an original smg disc and it updated my us wii to 3.0u. will there be any issues with putting a wiikey with d2b uncut legs in it with this update already in place?
Hey everyone good news I updated my wiikey to 1.9g then opened up my original Super Mario Galaxy and played it and it updated during play, I played SMG with no problems and then tried my backups after that and no problems occured so all my originals and backups are working fine which is a huge relief especially considering that my son wants Santa to bring him the SMG game and so now I can rest assure that Christmas morning will be fine with our Wii and SMG game as well as the backups all will still play. My wii was previously updated to 3.0U I have a US Wii that was purchased on launch day last year, my chipset is DMS, I installed my Wiikey "after" I had updated my system already to 3.0 so I was really worried I'd have issues my SMG game is the original from US as well, for anyone worried it should work if you have a similar concern like I did. I had read a lot of scary things about SMG and a wiikey with the updates. I was worried my wiikey would quit working or the SMG game would not work but it all worked out.
Also to the other person who is getting ready to mod your wii just read, read, read and you should be fine with modding it and getting it to work with SMG. I've never soldered before, I'm actually a 29 year old female, and my husband and I both looked for awhile to getting a mod for our wii, I talked him into getting the wiikey and when he started to mod it, he said it was so tiny he could'nt see to do it, so I took over compeletly, my job was not bad and we ran into no troubles, just take your time don't rush and practice on something first, we practiced on some old computer motherboards we had.
Thanks to all of you that helped me out with the SMG issue.
