As you all know I have a US Wii premod with a chip that doesn't update. I have already told my cousin who lives in the US (who's coming down to my place) to bring a genuine Wiinja Deluxe with him.
Now, I know a friend who does SUPER THIN and MINUTE 30+ wire installs on PS2's, even hacking the PS2 slim motherboard to install an IDE port for adding an HDD to the PS2 slims. Do you guys think its safe for me to give my Wii to him ? He said he can do it if I provide him with proper diagrams. All he has to do is throw away the junk thats inside my Wii and install a new chip on it.
Do you guys think I should go ahead with it ? You think he'll face problems opening/unscrewing the Wii ? I know about the Tri-Wing screwdriver and I'll get one for him.
The reason I ask is coz I know only one person in my area (or nearby it) who does Wii modchip installs and charges exorbitant amounts of money to do it. Also, that friend of mine will do it all in front of me, so I can lend him my "advice" that I got of all the forums and the internet :p
So, should I go ahead with it ? :) Thanx a lot for the advice :)
It is easy to do, if he can do a PS2 he won't have any problems at all. It shouldn't take long to do either, all the solder points are accessible and in one location, hopefully the company that did the mod didn't just do a quicksolder job and the wires will be reusable. If it is a quicksolder, he'll need to have a bit of solderwick, but still shouldn't pose too big a problem for an experienced installer with a good quality soldering iron. If wires are already in place all you need to do is snip off each of them at the modchip, re-strip the end and solder down, so only a fraction of the work involved versus installing from scratch. Go for it I say.
