Hey guys! I've seen that using custom firmware and maybe an emulator, one could play original Playstation games on their PSP. How is this achieved? I managed to get ahold of a Silent Hill ISO, custom designed to work on the PC (Which works), but the readme says it also works on the Playstation, so it should be an ISO that can be emulated on the PSP, right?
If you need to know, I'm running CFW 3.71 M33 on a PSP Slim, Star Wars Edition.

For anybody wondering how they can play PS1 games on their PSP Slim, here's a N00b level, step by step guide on how to do it.

Step 1
Make sure your firmware is version 3.71 M33-3. It may work on M33-2, but I'm not sure. You can download the update from PSP-Hacks HERE.

Step 2
Download POPSloader, a Playstation 1 game emulator, HERE

Step 3
The download should be a folder called "seplugins". The folder should contain two files, "pops.txt" and "popsloader.prx", and a folder called "popsloader". Transfer the "seplugins" folder, provided it contains the previously listed files, to the ROOT directory of your Memory Stick Duo. This is the main folder, the one you see when you access your MSD.

Step 4
With your card inserted, now containing the "seplugins" folder in the ROOT directory, launch your PSP Slim, while simultaneously holding down RB (Right Button, Right Shoulder, Right Trigger, whatever you want to call it) until the M33 Recovery Menu will appears onscreen. It's a DOS like screen containing red and white text on a black background.

Step 5
Use the D-Pad to navigate down to "Plugins ->" and press X to enter

Step 6
Unless you have other plugins installed, all you should see in this menu are "Back" and "popsloader.prx [POPS] (Disabled)". Navigate to "popsloader,prx [POPS} (Disabled)" and press X. This will enable POPSloader on your PSP, changing the Disabled to Enabled. Select "Back" to exit this menu.

Step 7
Navigate to Exit and press X. This will reboot your PSP to the Home menu.

Step 8
Let's add some games! Now, there are many sources and methods of acquiring PS1 games for the PSP. You can torrent PSX files (which I don't condone), you can convert a LEGITIMATELY downloaded ISO file using a program called Popstation, or you can rip it off an actual Playstation CD. Let's assume you already have a game. It should be what is called a PSX game. This is a PS1 game that can be emulated on a PSP. It should be a folder containing two files. The first file should be named EBOOT.PBP. This is the game file itself, which the PSP will read. The second file should be called KEYS.BIN. I'm not sure of the function of this file, and some people have reported being able to play a game with or without the file, but let's keep it anyway.

Step 9
If you Memory Stick Duo is properly formatted, it should contain a directory called PSP in the ROOT directory. Within this directory, there should be another directory called GAME. This is the directory in which you should place your PSX game folders. (If this directory structure isn't present, create it). You'll probably want to rename your PSX game's folder to the name of the game. Ex. Silent Hill -> EBOOT.PBP + KEYS.BIN

Step 10
You're done! To play, just navigate to Game, Memory Stick in the home menu. Your game should have the original Playstation icon. Start it up, and prepare for oldschool gaming bliss!
