PSP GPS running 3.72 Firmware

I need help from anyone. I have installed files to get the maps on my psp, but the 3.72 bounces back saying it can't play the game. Also i have tried goin to the recovery mode to manipulate my psp but to no avail. the whole R button and power slide for 5 secs doesn't work for me, probably not doin it right. any how I would like to know if anyone out there has been able to install this GPS to the 3.72 Firmware on a standard PSP (not Slim) and had success running the thing?????
all the help is greatly appreciated.
Also tried creating a Pandora's battery to downgrade but lets face it i am not all that technical on the PSP like i need to be. I will try anything to get this thing to work for me.

1) To access Recovery Mode, hold the "On" switch up for 5 seconds. The PSP will turn off. Then, press and hold the R trigger and then turn on your PSP by just puching the switch up once for less than a second. Recovery Mode will appear.

2) For the GPS thing, it's called MapThis!. You need a real GPS. That's why it's not that popular.

3) Even if you get a GPS you need tp be on a CFW, and the only way for you to do that is by Pandora's Battery.

so basically going from 3.72 to 1.5 kernel in recovery mode, and manipulating my battery to a pandora's battery still won't work?
i bought that GPS 290 from a website since it came out in Japan. Thought sweet hope it works
still trying using the video in youtube and the Mapthis software i downloaded.
but if it still won't work don't think i will try to create a pandora's battery.
any advice?

Then it's because you need a CFW! Pandora's Battery is yoru only way.
