How do you update a 2.2J Wii in U.S.?

I was told not to update in the U.S. if I have a japan version of wii. Will this be a problem? Can I turn on the internet option and update it? I'm worried that it wont find the right update site but instead retrieve the U.S. update which will brick it.

anybody have similar experience with wii updates? is here a region block on the network side?

also is it worth it to upgrade to 3.0 or above from 2.2? any games with compatibility issues there?

a jap wii will d/load the jap update no matter where in the world it is - thats the safe way to update

the danger of bricking is if u put a different region disc in it
