Why cant you just take the 1.50 update but give it the 3.XX fingerprint? so when you go to update it thinks the firmware is 3.xx and not 1.50. This would allow you to install custom firmware, without all these downgraders...

Im sure this isn't a revolutionary idea, just wondering why it isn't possible?

Because the PSP recognizes certain .prx's in each firmware update.
Do you think Sony is stupid enough to let us do that more than 2 times? (2.00/2.01 downgraders worked this way)
