I am in the process of flashing my xbox 360. i just sucessfully used the slax 2 disc. Now after xp booted up and i logged on i put an original dvd in the drive. I pressed the eject button once and then manually shut the tray. After that the comp is supposed to show that it recognizes the disc (start realplayer for example) but nothing starts up. What do i do?

um when i first did my hitachi way back when
you shoudl boot your comp with the slax disc in a reg dvd drive
wtih the hitachi connected to the sata while its on
then the slax will do somethinrestart your comp while keeping your xbox on
then it should be rexonized

okay i will explain in steps what i am doing
1. put slax 2 in comp drive with xbox 360 off(sata cable already connected)
2. reboot comp, when "boot from cd" appears i turn on the xbox
3. slax 2 will run through its system and i end up at the slax login screen
4. i type "root" then "toor" then type in the command reboot
5. I remove slax upon reboot and eject tray at windows loading bar
6. 360 is now in mode b (2 presses of eject button..etc)
7. after i log in to xp i then put a regular dvd into the xbox drive making sure i press the eject button and then manually close the tray
8. I open the program xbox toolbox or something like that and when i go to start the dump, i get an error saying "make sure windows notices the drive". So i open "my computer"...nothing. I go to device manager...nothing.
So why can the drive get into mode b sucessfully but windows xp cannot notice the drive?

what is the old version of slax. I got a replacement DVD ROM that has a 59dj drive in it. I want to use the slax method not the wire trick.
Also I got a video on how to boot from slax CD for the 78 drive. Would it be the same way to flash the 59 drive I have in my XBOX 360 I want to use the boot method from the slax cd so it can be found in MODE B and be flashed or do I have to find an another way to flash the old DVD ROM.

assuming you have the Hitachi 78fk....those steps look pretty good. the only other thing you should try is opening and closing (a few times) the hitachi drive while the "windows loading bar" is showing on your PC. then go straight into device manager and make sure it shows us. better yet, open up "my computer", find the new lettered drive, right-click and select "eject". that way you will know that it is good to go.
also, i thought you were supposed to put in the "original dvd movie or xbox game" once the maximus toolbox is already open. i might be wrong, but i think that's what i did and it worked fine.

there is a step in the tutorial that talks about rebooting your PC (once slax has run) while keeping your xbox 360 on. that is what brandnew8's step #4 is.

i have a question. Everyone is saying they have a hitachi 59 or a 79 or whatever. How do i know which version i have? Is it in the serial # somewhere? I'm guessing i have an older hitachi drive since the manufactured date was june/05

i just noticed on the hitachi drive...it says "ROM VER.:0046DG"
i'm guessing i have an hitachi v46?
so is the reason why my windows xp will not notice the drive is because i'm using slax 2 instead of the original slax 1? hence older drive older software.
Where can i download the original slax? I can only seem to find slax 2 which is what i have now.

it shouldn't matter. slax v2.1 should recognize the drive. make sure you turn on the xbox 360 just before you turn on your PC, and when it says "disc spinning" or something like that, open and then close the hitachi drive. that should put it in mode b. if not, then maybe is something wrong with your pci sata card.

there was a setting (not sure what category it was under) to switch from RAIDS to IDE. Since the first disabled raid setting enabled windows to sucessfully load slax 2 to i assumed that disabling the other would allows windows to notice the drive...and it did.
I dont know the meaning behind RAIDS and IDE but with the info i've read over the past week, i learned that disabling raids was the thing to do

I just flashed my XBOX360 that I got back from M$ last night. I got a v59 drive. I flashed it w/the newest slax cd w/no problems. I got it into mode B and wasnt showing up in My Computer, but do you get a message basicly stating about you having a new device hooked up and a bot shows up so you can download the software. I got that box and ran the software XP provided, then it had shoed up in My Computer and wa able to go from there.
