Trawled through this forum and img burner's own forum for info on burning to dvd. Followed the instructions step by step and I'm producing nothing but tea coasters. I've tried Nero and Img Burn, mainly using Maxell DVD-R since the Fujitsu DVD+R I have in truckloads aren't even recognised by the drive (unable to find TOC) and all to no avail. I've tried burning several different films converted from AVI to DVD PAL with AVS video converter, the original files play perfectly and Nero plays the converted .VOB files smoothly with no probs. The burn process seems successful until the verification starts and then I keep getting error messages saying "logical block address out of range"...
I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious; any help much appreciated

have you tried the dvdr in PC and standalone player anyway to see if it works? (load dvdr you made, not from files on pc)
try a firmware update to your burner to help reading more dvdr's
could be your media "el cheapo" get dvd identifier or dvd infopro tell us dye/code info here, maybe able to see it in dvd decryptor

The plot thickens:
After several more unsuccessful attempts. Bought a brand new external drive and some verb-rw and -r DVD discs. Similar problems as before - winexplorer won't show the blank discs as being in the drive and the results (in the new drive) don't verify properly (although they get further in the process than before) and the resulting DVD will play on both new, old and standalone players but they freeze after some time. I've looked for firmware upgrades and sought advice over at The Firmware Page but the latest advice from there is that I shouldn't have bothered buying an external drive. I'm tearing my hair out with this; any help very much appreciated.

im with rotary on this. sounds like firmware yo. when you say "got new external drive" do you mean an external dvd burner? cuz if so, it would seem unlikely firmware would be the culprit. however, i think every drive i ever bought has newer firmware available. also "logical block address out of range" means its trying to read sectors that arent there.
thats a strange error to get...

ok so you burned ok..
it just didnt verirfy ok? (i never verify)
these new burnt discs play but stop after a while? (its the discs...)
you say you bought *verb-rw and -r DVD discs* what was the make of the -R?
did both these type discs stop after a while?

Thanx Philzone, The new drive is an ASUS DRW-1814BL. Following advice from the ImgBurn Forum, I tried burning the same ISO again, this time burning at 16x and I'm ACTUALLY WATCHING (wonders will never cease) the discs now.
I'm still keen to find out what the problem was in the first place if any of you guys are able to help me do so...

I still think firmware is needed. As far as the freezing up during playback, its most likely that your player doesnt like your discs. but, all players are different as far as what optical media they like. if it does not freeze up at the exact same place EVERY time, than that is surely the issue. generally, i find -r media to be most reliable.
not all writable media is created equal. cheezoid media is just that...
CHEEZE! I strongly recommend ordering up some TAIYO YUDEN discs. get some buddies to go in on them with you, as you get much better prices in bulk. i used to use cheezoids years ago, and now most of them wont read at all! :( the taiyo dye is very rich, and dark, and pretty much eliminated any read issues i ever had:)
