I have a PSP that originally had firmware 3.04 oe-a. I have the NFS Carbon CSO which I have recently obtained, I attempted to play it and when the game gets to a loading screen the PSP turns off. Thinking it was just the CSO, I played the WipePulse demo I have which from memory was an ISO that I have played without a problem before and at a loading screen the PSP turned itself off. It won't turn off when playing a game off a UMD disc though. I have tried various batteries and another genuine Sony memory stick, still happens. I then downgraded back to the official 1.5 firmware and upgraded to 3.71 M33-3,it still happens. Thinking maybe it was the memory sticks, I played music off them and had no issues. I have disabled everything in the Configuration menu and under Advanced as this worked for one other post. Still no joy. Has anyone got any suggestions?
A demo will always work because it is legal, from Sony.
Your ISO is corrupted, try downloading it from another website.
Before you do that, check if it's your Memory Stick Duo: from your PSP, go to the Movies section for example, and press Triangle while the Memory Stick Duo icon is selected. Then select information.
If it says "Magic Gate: Supported" then it's a legit Memory Stick Duo and it's the ISO that's corrupted.
If it says "Magic Gate: Not supported" or "Unknown" then it's fake so you have to get a legit Memory Stick Duo and then try the ISO. Still freezes in the middle of the game, download another ISO from a different website.
If the ISO doesn't appear or doesn't start, follow this troubleshooting guide HERE.
Sorry, I stated that the demo also didn't work. When the screen loads between races on the demo, the PSP turns off. I tried the suggestions on the link you provided and unfortunately it did not resolve the problem. I have also tried formatting flash1 but the problem still occurs. So far this problem is only happened on any games with long loading screens, only happens on ISOs/CSOs even legit ones, UMD discs work fine.
I'm already running the latest firmware, 3.71 M33-3. Unless you're suggesting downgrading? I was running 3.40 oe-a previously and the same problem occurred.
I wouldn't suspect the UMB bay is faulty though, the game starts fine and from what I understand ISOs don't use the UMD drive during game play as it loads from the memory stick. I'm not 100% certain on that so correct me if I'm wrong.
That is correct if you enabled "Sony NP9660" (or whatever it's called) in Recovery Mode, you do not need a UMD for palying ISOs. If you didn't enable it then you need a UMD in the bay to play an ISO.
