So I got a PSP today and bought the wrong video cable. I know I need the component AV cable to play games and such, but I do not have anything that can use that. My main TV is actually an HDTV adapter for my PC moitor, and it doesnt support the component AV connection, just the yellow/white/red connection. So, before I go back to the store and switch cables, are there any adapters I could get to hook up my PSP to my HDTV box?

if you can find an adapter like THIS one, then it should work, if your HDTV box has a s-video port.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Indeed it does! I also checked the specs and it says my box supposrts progressive scan output. Now I just gotta find one of those adapters. I cant tell from the image, but it looks like the left-most cable is a component to S-video adapter? And I assume I would connect the other red and white cables into the red and white ports on the box?
I havent ever used S-video so Im not clear on how it works.

yes, you still connect the red/white audio cables, but instead of plugging in a yellow video, you plug in the s-video.

now, i can't guarantee that it will work, because progressive scan is achieved by using component cables directly to the tv. the adapter might interfere with the signal, so it's a 50/50 chance.

Also, will a cable/adapter I get suppoert progressive scan?

I found this

Will it do? It says S-Video to Component HDTV, but it seems like I would want the other way around. Im quite confused.

And so, my box says it supports progressive scan, but if the component cable is the only way to do it, how can that be?

that's the same cable as the one i posted, but more color coordinated.

progressive scan can only be used with component/hdmi cables, and of course a progressive scan enabled tv/monitor. the colors are separated, so it will appear more crisp, instead of bleeding together. it uses higher bandwith transmission rates, and only high end cables can achieve that.

but because the adapter combines the three colors again, ir might interfere with the signal.

Ok, I think I get it. I wouldnt mind the colors not being crisp, but if the signal gets signifigantly messed up then what would happen? Like no video at all? Or maybe the PSP will just have that error message and not play games. I will give it a shot though, since the cable is only $5.

If youve got the necessary equipment, please try it out and tell me what happens. If I order this thing I gotta wait a week or so to get it just to find out if it works. Thatd save some time.

If I cant get this to work though do I have any other options? Or do I just have to get an HDTV or something with component video input?

so i found my adapter. problem; there are more pins in the s-video adapter than a regular s-video cable. i'm thinking the extra pins are to output each color. it won't fit into a regular s-video port. we were close though.

most likely, you'll need to use a tv that is progressive scan enabled; all new tv's should be at least 480p, which the psp needs.
