Bottom line question: Will we ever be able to just flash the Wii like 360s are able to do? No mod chip, just flash.. BECAUSE..

I am a total noobie when it comes to modding a Wii. I have done tons and tons of 360s, but I have read and read and read some more about the Wii. I DO NOT GET IT. I have the Wiikey and thing are just frustrating me.

I'll answer your questions-

"I have the Wiikey and do not know when to update"
Update whenever the Wiikey site has a new update.

"what updates will brick which won't"
The only way to brick your Wii is by updating from a different region game.

"when to change settings"
On the Wiikey? All you need to do is turn on region override on the config. disc.

"when not to update"
When we say so. When Nintendo release a new update for the Wii, wait and see what everybody else says.

I seriously think trading a modded Wii for an unmodded one is stupid. What kind of reasoning is that? If you don't want the modchip then you can just take it out and sell the chip to someone.

I don't think there will be a way to flash the Wii soon.

truth is, i have a wii modded... it was easy.. now on the other hand, I am trying to figure out the 360 stuff, and cant figure it out for anything.
