Hi
I read around about if you play only originals while connected to xbox live and backups while always offline, there is a 100% chance you will not get banned, is this true?

if u play a bad backup online or offline u will gt abnned
the xbox keeps a log wheter your online or offline
so if its a badbackup then u get banned no matter what

Dude, Microsoft can't tell if you are playing a backup offline. I know a EA programmer and he told me this and it makes sense.

Conflicting views! Interesting question, I'd be interested in seeing more comments but I'm sure this has been discussed in the past.
I'd only play backups offline and originals online, but I don't know if it is any more or less safe. I hope it is!

I gotta agree with Stanlane. Yeah it would be nice if you knew 100%, im sure i heard from other members here at afterdawn that you cant get banned as the xbox only stores the save files not the files inside game you played!
It has been said that every game has an id, and with that id if microsoft sees a game with the same id online at the same time they know for sure that one of them is a backup or even both so they look into it, then-ban.
Thats why more people who download their games get banned even though they have perfect copies when people who rent games or backup their own games rarely get banned. It makes sense.
But really there are so many people on ebay who dont bother about live and pay good money for banned consoles, so im taking the risk and it adds to the fun!.
Also all this talk about banning in waves and microsoft keeping your console id until they want to ban at a certain point in the year doesnt make sense, if microsoft see that your playing a backup im sure they can ban anyone at anytime with the technology they have. Imo its just them not bothering to ban people everyday so when bans start happening dont play for a bit until it dies down like last time after that play time. Its only the unlucky ones that get caught and its a slim chance of you getting banned if you do everything right.

I think if you play copies of your original games online, you'll be fine and closest to being safe as you can be, maybe one day they will nail us all. But still, even if you get banned you can still play them offline.

Yup, wouldn't be the end of the world if we were banned. The only game I like to play online is Halo 3 and I own it ;)

I have heard the same thing about backups storing info offline and can ban a console when logging on even when playing an original online. I know there are no guarantees but it would be nice to know if this is for real or not before buying another console.

Question:
Is the ethernet cord plugged in, well if it is then usually the console is signed into Xbox Live, even if you are playing the game offline.
So who is to say that the same information is not transmitted to Microsoft?
As for it actually storing it and transmitting the next time you log on, well that is unlikely but no one can really be 100% sure.
So your safest bets are:
1. always make the backup yourself using a flashed Samsung DVD-Rom drive in your PC and Xbox Backup Creator
2. Always use top quality media like Verbatim
3. Always booktype your media as DVD-Rom
4. If your worried about getting banned then don't mod your system in the first place.

This may sound dumb, but wouldn't having one HD for backups and one for online gaming solve the problem if bad backups store information?

Sure if the information they are looking at was stored on the hard drive and not in some flash memory on the motherboard.

do we know for definite that you CANNOT get banned playing originals of a flashed drive?
ive checked all my ISO's with mulleter and all the boxes were ticked, ive checked them with kreon checker and XBC and all fine. Is that the BEST possile chance i have of me not getitng banned playing backups online?
