Is there such thing as a softmod for the Wii like there is for the Xbox 360 updating the firmware on the DVD drive?

Why not? It seems if you can do it for one system you should be able to do it for another.

Every system is not the same you know.

The Wii has not been hacked yet. The chips now are just drive chips that basically just tricks the Wii into thinking the backup is legit.

Wow that's like saying if you can read Spanish you should be able to read Russian. They are both foreign languages after all.

Ok, what about a disc swap technique like the PS2? That would be a lot easier than soldering 31 wires?

Nope no disc swap.

The only way to play backups on the Wii right now is to solder on a chip.

Yeah there's loads of stuff that would be easy for so many including being able to run backups without doing anything at all... which some seem to think is possible as well. Unfortunately all the stickies/guides don't include any info about quick fixes m8.

A tip - if you don't see it being talked about and can't get any results for it when you google then it's a good indicator that what you want is not happening ;)

Me and my friends were wondering about this too and we have come up with a 100 percent guarenteed working softmod for your wii that requires no soldering, no swapping, no nothing.

Buy the game / play originals.

If you wanna play backups and bootlegs like the pro's you'll have to suck it up and pay and installer or get your feet wet, atleast for now :)

Sorry

LiteOn DVD+/-RW 8X
Run down v4 /w Magic 3.1
5 non working Fujifilm DVD-RWs :(

I love seeing posts like this one. Inevitably you get someone "brainstorming" about how to hack a new console. The funny thing is that all of these posters hashing out hack ideas usually have no background in programming or reverse engineering whatsoever (and no, working for the geek squad or your local ma and pop computer store does not qualify you for baseline code disassembly).

If you want an example of this just take a gander in the ps3 section of afterdawn and wade through the swamp of "couldn't you just get the laser to read from the inside out..." yadda yadda posts.

Take note everybody, the hack groups that in the end succeed in creating viable homebrew solutions and hardware mods are NEVER, I repeat, NEVER part of the forum discussions on how to get it done.

Moral of the story? It's fun to hold a conversation on what you may think the solution is for hacking that console, whether it be a hardware mod or a soft mod, as long as you don't actually think that you are contributing to the eventual success of the group that releases the hack.
