How do i split an avi file?

I have an avi file which is 1.03Gb. I need to crop it down to exactly 1Gb so that it fits on my 1Gb pen drive.
Is there an easy way to do it? I'm not bothered about losing the last .03Gb, it's not important.

There is a guide for VirtualDub which gives a basic idea on how to cut an AVI.
This version does not allow to cut by size, however a modified version -'VirtualDubMod' does.
Run VirtualDubMod and push 'Ctrl Shift J', and insert the required length (1000MB).
