No, you can always hardmod by cutting pin 5.

If it is the new PSP Slim you can't downgrade it instead you can upgrade it directly to 3.71 M33 via pandora's battery with universal unbricker v3....

Use TotalNewb Easy installer.

Start by downloading it HERE.

Now Extract it.

After you have extracted it start the easy installer by executing the START file.

Follow DOS on screen instructions.

When it gets to the part that lets you choose what to install on the Magic Memory Stick choose option 4 Universal unbricker (this will install the need files to Mmeory Stick that will install 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware onto your PSP SLIM).

After you have made the Magic Memory Stick go HERE and Hardmod the SLIM battery. All your doing is soldering a wire between 2 points letting the SLIM go into service mode. make sure you are following the PSP SLIM image.

After you have done this place the Magic Memory Stick into your SLIM PSP then place the Hardmoded Battery into the SLIM. This should bring up a menu for you to install 3.71 M33-2 to the PSP (by pressing X). Make sure you choose that not the 3.71 official firmware.

After the firmware has been installed open the Battery back up and unsolder the wire to bring the Battery back to normal use.

You are now updated with 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware.

I don't think SLIM Battery can be converted to pandora via removing the 5th pin..

You can Mod a PSP SLIM Battery. There is an image on how to do it on the above link.

Did you try doing any soldering to the battery? Taking the Case off shouldn't make the battery inoperable.

That is what is supposed to happen after Hardmoding it to a Pandora Battery. The Green led light will come on. But you need to place the Magic Memory Stick in also.

If you haven't created the Magic Memory Stick do it by downloading the easy installer and following the mini-guide I gave in my previous post above.
