i would go with this one http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802205

but thats just me :)

but this is whaT your link says

3. NYKO INTERCOOLER- known to catch fire. Draws power from the power supply before your Xbox 360 gets power; this causes high temperatures because of the current overload. The NYKO fans run faster than the onboard factory fans, this cancels out the RPM?s of the factory fans and cancels out the same amount of RPM?s of the NYKO fans leaving only ¼ of the RPM?s to suck hot air out. This gives you the 3 red lights of death from burning up your hard drive, DVD drive and warping your motherboard.

doesnt matter what you use to cool it

if it wants to RROD it will

even with a jet fan hooked to it lol

not sure if there was any reports on the new falcon rrod ing yet

they should have put regular controler ports on the xbox360 like the ps2 has and maybe they wouldnt have so many problems overheating
my sons one friend said his xbox 360 rrod after playing guitar hero 3 .and i am sure others have just overheated playing games very long hours like halo 3

strange thing is that i can leave my ps2(slim )on all night and next day with that real small fan inside and nothing goes wrong lol. and the xbox360 has 2 pc fans installed and overheats . and the xbox360 is very big compared to the ps2 in case size

I AM A DUMPSTER DIVER AND PROUD OF IT..
Reach Down & Grab it Or Walk in & Get Some !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!}

Thanks Neptune, you couldn't pay me to use that intercooler, i know first hand how LOUSY the Nyko customer service is (I called about another product return, and they were horrible and never called back). If it had a separate power supply, then i would buy it mabybe. Right man, MS sure rushed it to the market, they should have got it fixed first before releasing it, but oh well. They should send all 360 owners a rebate coupon for us to get something to cool it with.

Personally most of those "snap on" coolers do not do a lot better then the stock fan. The stock fan moves 29CFM and that one moves 30CFM. Where as you can see by the specs below the Talismoon internal replacement fan moves almost as much as those two fans combined all by itself, no to mention it is quieter. So you know what my choice was.

DC Power: 12V (at 5v)- Original Fan: 12V (at 5v)
Current: 160mA - Original Fan: 250mA
Speed: 4100RPM - Original Fan: 4600RPM
Air flow: 46CFM - Original Fan: 29CFM
Loudness: 38d(B)a - Original Fan: 41d(B)a

Thanks Steimy, do you think the notebook cooler might work too? I am going to give it a shot and see.

Well, it should about double the airflow. But make sure that if it has vents on the bottom or sides where air blows out that they are wide open. Being on the bottom if you have thicker carpet it could come up and block off the holes a little and you want to avoid that from happening.

There are a lot of factors as to how well it will work. One being how cool your house is kept. I have the Talismoon fan and my house is usually kept about 65 degrees and i have never once had my system overheat.

Thanks Steimy, you are the expert here for sure!!

Guys, I got a notebook cooler today (what the e-bay thing was and I would be stupid to buy that when you can get them for $10 online at buy.com after the Google checkout) and it has really helped, my 360 is not as hot as before. Keep the original fan if you get the Talisman fan installed so you can send it back to MS if you need repair because the reps told me that if you put anything inside the 360, it will void your warranty.

Newbie, I bought a notebook cooler off Buy.com for like $8 (after the Google $10 off thing). It really helps, it still gets warm, but not as bad as before. Something too with that, all those notebook cooler fans required a USB connection to power it, so the 360 can do it. I had an extra USB AC-powered hub (like $20 at Wal Mart) to use the power, didn't want the cooler straining the 360. I got a desk fan behind it so hopefully all this will help me out.

Hey, it's just like the one in the e-bay link at the top of the thread. There is a ton at newegg, tigerdirect, and buy.com. Just keep in mind though they are all USB powered so probably best to get a AC powered USB hub to it, unless your computer is close to it. You juse sit your 360 on top of it and the fans draw the air from it. I would maybe get one at Wal Mart and see if you like it or not and if not, return it.

i got a few things here lol

My 360 just RROD like five minutes ago LMAO!! (it is underwarranty still)

As for the new cooling system (that ironically i was gonna put in tommorrow.) I took the fan out of an air conditioner and hooked it up good. now that i wont have to worry about setting my 360 up i can just do it without the 360 lol. and go back to my original xbox even if i miss my Guitar Hero 3..and HALO 3...

You sit the 360 on top of it. There are fans in the cooler which remove the hot air from the 360. Dude, I wouldn't stress about it so much, I would get a cooler and a fan and just make sure to turn it off after like an hour or 2. I wouldn't try the intercooler for sure.

should it really get that hot that quickly? how can i check the fans are working? do the fans push air out or take air in? the back gets the hottest quickest...is that supposed to happen?

when i first got my 360 at launch it kept getting hot and locking up,never the rrod but getting hot and freezing. so under the advice a friend i put for bottle caps under each corner of the system to keep it elevated and it hasnt frozen since then and thats been some quite time as you can imagine since launch was in 05 november.also i put 2 caps under the power supply to keep it from getting hot. ive sinced moved on to the elite i gave my brother my premium as a gift and he hasnt had any problems with it and i still put bottle caps undermy elite, i never waited to see if it would freeze just did it premtively and i dont have the caps under the power supply and it runs fine. hope my long drawn out stroy can help.

yeah i was thinking as this case wqas second hand, a few tabs on the side vents are broken off and the little rubber tabs are missing so it is flat against my disk, i might try is with a few bottle caps underneath or maybe oe of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180193377368

basically a heatsink for the underneath, but i dont know how well that would work through the plastic and everytihng.

You would hear the fan, it is too loud to miss. And elevating your console off of any surface is a great idea. I use an old VCR tape.
They are mostly hollow and very light plastic so they do not hold heat well.
After putting in my Talismoon fan i have never had my system overheat even after 5-6 hours of continuous play.

hi,

ive looked into talismoon fans but cant fidn the correct one and dont kbnow how hard they are to install.

can you get them without the blue LED's? i have the XCM black knight chameleon case with the plastic X in it and the flashign LED's will the blue LED's ruin this part of my case? (will the blue overshadow the other colours)?

are they easy to install?

do i need anythign else other than a fan like this:
