hi guys, i need advice on what to get for christmas. im not sure what to get. either a modded ps2 or an xbox 360. can anybody tell me their experience having a modded ps2 and a xbox 360? like is it worth the money?

I have both of them. Gave the modded ps2 to my 4 yr old cause the 360 blows it away. Also, the 360 is easily modded to play backup copies of your original games.

dude, why would you want a 10 year old system like the PS2 over a 360?? The 360 is awesome man and you can mod that too.

depends what you want. For high end graphics and better game play i would say get the 360. My second choice would not be a modded PS2 though, it would be a chipped original Xbox.
Why you ask? Because the original Xbox (with modchip) can do SOOOOO many things. It is a complete media center. With XBMC you can upscale movies to HD (720P), You can replace the wimpy stock hard drive with a nice 300GB hard drive and store all your games on it (never needing to use your discs and saving the laser), and really so much more. And other then the graphics of the 360, the features that a modded original Xbox has will blow away what a 360 can do. That is why i say if the graphics and gameplay is what you want then the 360 is really a no brainer.
Now i have Both a modded V12 PSTwo (DMS4 Pro modchip, 250GB Hard Drive, HD Combo case with graphics) and a modded Xbox (DuoX2 modchip, 300GB hard drive, and tons of great programs), and also a 360 of course which now dominated my game playing time. So i can give you a good comparison. I loved my modded PS2 and played it all the time until i got my Xbox. Once i started on that and saw all of the great things it could do i was hooked and the PSTwo started collecting dust.
Now a few things you should know first.
1. If you want Xbox Live then a modchip is not for you and modding the Xbox is a bad idea. The only real way is to keep the original hard drive, use original games, and do a specific softmodding technique to not get banned. But there are free alternatives like Xlink Kai and XBconnect that you can use instead with a fully pimped out Xbox
2. Xbox back ups are a little harder to make since your PC will not read the original discs like a PS2 game. But the extra time spent is worth it when you consider all of the benefits the Xbox has.
3. If you do not find the system already modded you may have a harder time finding a lot of the stuff you need to do it. A good deal of the top modding sites for both systems shut down due to government raids a few months back. And doing it yourself takes some skill unless you decide to softmod an Xbox which is pretty easy and user friendly.
4. A softmodded Xbox will do everything that a modchip will except for swapping out the hard drive. The proceedure is quite a bit more involved with a softmodded system. That and recovering from errors that may occure is MUCH easier with a modchipped system.
5. Only the V12 and V13 can be modded with a hard drive as far as the slimline models. And to do it you will need to buy a new case called HD Combo Case. This case will allow for a hard drive and also has dual fans which help with the always present overheating problems that the slimline PSTwo's have.

You know, if you're interested in a PS2, you don't even have to get a modded one. You can just pickup a Memor32 memory card.

If money is an issue and the 360 is too much for you, get a Wii instead of a PS2.

is it really easy to mod a xbox 360?
and how?
i never heard of a modded xbox 360.
well i only have 300 dollars for christmas and im kinda unsure about what to get.
does the xbox 360 still get the red ring of death alot like it did before?
what is memor32?
what does that do?
wow, i never thought there was this many things to play burned games for a ps2... i was always into my hacked psp so i wasnt up to date with all this stuff.

modding a PS2 these days will not be easy. You have to know how to solder, getting chips is not as easy, and getting one installed for you is even worse.
as far as making the back up games, well that is simple. But you have to remember that with older systems the games will not be easy to find and you really will not have much in the way of support forums as most people have moved up to a PS3 or 360 these days.
And for $300 your not going to get anything as far as an Xbox 360 package, even at the cheapest retail stores. You will get a system with no hard drive, only one controller, and no other accessories. I would save another $100 and get the premium system for about $349 plus tax. At least you get 2 games, even though only one of them (Forza 2) is worth buying in the first place.

bhetrick, have you heard any reports on how well it works. I know Swap Magic was a great thing when it first came out too. But it is also incredibly flawed.
It would be nice if this memory card could do all the same things as a modchip (sort of like softmodding an Xbox) but so far in the PS2 world nothing has been able to touch what a good chip can do.
I just have not been in the PS2 scene for quite a while now. I am even "donating" my one system to a friend of mine with all my games (about 350 of them). This will be my Second donation to a freind of my old systems. They must love that i keep up with the times and rather then selling my old stuff i give it to a freind in need. Now i have to find a use for that old V7 with fliptop. All my old PC's have gone to friends to give their moms or grandmoms so they can send pictures and emails with the family.

Only reason I still play my PS2 is for GOD OF WAR. Once there is a GOD OF WAR for the 360 (if ever) the PS2 will really be obsolete. Unless you can't afford a next generation game system then in that case the PS2 is still fun.

Ya... I haven't done anything lately for any of the last gen systems either. I still have 1 Xbox and 1 v7 PS2 just sitting here in my office. I just happened to come across that Memor 32. It is the real deal. The third party firmware takes advantage of the memory card exploit which was found awhile back. I've thought about picking one up a couple times but figured hell, I'll never play a lot of PS2 games now to make it worth it. Same with the Xbox. I'll probally end up selling them off as a pair.
