This is my second post in the last 24 hours, so sorry in advance for the machine-gunning. I have an Xbox 360 Elite with a Hitachi 0079FL firmware, a SY VIA 150 SATA card, and using an old Dell desktop to attempt the flash

The drive picks up in the BIOS screen, and picks up in Windows. But, when I go into Firmware Toolbox 3.0 and try to do a raw dump, it says "Cannot read from drive." From my searches, this problem usually happens when RAID functions are turned on, but I didn't think this card was capable of a RAID setup. Is there a way to turn off the RAID functions on the SY VIA 150, or is it a software thing, or am I not doing something right?

Again, this is supposed to be a Xmas gift for a friend of mine, and I am about at wits end. Please help!

well, i will first assume that you know the 79's need a mod chip installed in order to flash them... that being the case, there is no way i ahve found to turn off the raid, but what i ahve done in the past is uninstall the drivers for it, go on xbins and get the latest drivers. (if you dont know how to use xbins, jsut look up how). now during the install a box will come up that will allow you to sellect and deselect what to install. whne this happens, make sure the second box down is unchecked.... should say something like via 150 raid utilities, or something. Make sure that it is not checked, and that the first one is. that should do the trick. also, make sure that your drive is plugged into the internal port clsotes to the front of the pc, generally labeled port 0. you can also try using a different pci slot within the pc. I have heard in the past that changing the slot has helped, not sure why, but its worth a shot. I personally have never flashed a 79, as i dont like the idea of messing with soldering on my 400 dollar machine, but i use the via 150 for my samsungs, and these are the methods i use to get it too work. good luck.

added... jsut one other thing, if you are going to use firmware toolbox, i would reccomend getting the latest version as well. as of right now i beleive it is 4.5. you can also find this on xbins.

Just installed the newest drivers for the card (5.60A) and now I'm back to the card erroring out when I boot and not even initializing. Going to reinstall win xp tomorrow morning and start from scratch.

Just for my clarity (and sanity), can somone clear up a few things for me?
1) the Passkey's ONLY function is to put the drive into modeb, right? If the drive is showing all the modeb behaviors, then the chip is working, correct? Or could this be a faulty chip?
2) could this card be faulty? would the card not work at all if it was bad, or could the computer see it, install drivers for it, and it be defective? (I've NEVER seen this to be the case for computer hardware, but I haven't had this much hassle with hardware since before the plug-n-play era)
3) people who are using this card are using unhacked drivers, right? I've seen references to 5.20 and 5.30. But are you guys using modified drivers, or are they "stock"?

All input is greatly appreciated at this point.

Finally found a VIA VT6421A card (none of this SY-VIA-150 or RoseWill stuff) and ordered it. So, when that comes, I'll post the results. In the mean time, can anyone confirm/answer the Q's above? Just trying to rule stuff out.
