how noisy should a hitcahi 0078fk drive be?

hi,
my xbox is under a year old, i flashed the 0078dfk drive with ixtreme 1.4 at 5x sped. whe i play my original games the drive sort of clicks and clunks quite a bit as if the ddisc is scraping even.
this is mainly when loading but does seem to do it a fair bit...is this normal?
i didnt pay any attention tot eh noise before i flashed it as i have no reason to.

if you hear a "grinding" noise, then that's what happened to me. i didn't know how to "fix" it, so i bought a new hitachi 78fk off ebay and installed it. issue resolved.
there are some things that i have read that hypothesises that the dvd-rom "magnet" might be broken and needs to be glued on. i don't know about that. i just bought a new one for like $60, issue solved.

hi,
im not bothered about the noise, its only really when laoding and in very small doses like half a second but quite a few times.
it is a sort of grinding noise, but only when loading discs and in vey short blips of it. its hard to describe this sound though.
i dont want to have to buy a new drive, as ive jsut spent quite a bit of money getting it done up with a fimware upgrade, fan upgrade and a new case etc.
but out of interest, how do i install a enw drive? i have my original 0078fk drive firmware and drive key...do i just flash it with my 'grinding' drives original frimware and drive key then upgrade to ixtreme?
im going to see if my backups laod when i recieve my verbaims and if they work i wont replace anytihng yet because if they run i have no issue i will jsut bear in mind i may need to replace bits or the whole drive in future...so id like to know how id install a new hitachi drive?

no it's supposed to sound like that... If the xbox is more then say 8ft away you can barely notice it. Mabye more if it's completely silent. tho.

so should there be a clickly drinding sound quite often?
i didnt notice this before i flashed it because i didnt ahve a clue what was in an xbox to be honest...but after i opened it and im installing new fans ive obviously been proving and paying attention and didnt know if that was my drive on its last legs?
oh well for future reference, if iw ere to replace the drive...is it just a case of a straight swap...flasihng it in firmware toolbox with your origuinal frimware and original drive key?
can you swap and change drive makes...could i put a samsung or other drive in there?
which drive is the easiest to flash and has best readings/lasts the longest?

ummm....no disrespect, but i don't agree with momhoemer. i had my xbox 360 for 1 year and it was loud (you could hear the spinning from a distance), but no grinding noise. And then it started to make the grinding noise. after 2 weeks of "grinding", the drive just stopped working. i would insert a game, it would grind, and then just stop spinning. drive dead.
as for replacing the drive. i do believe you can use other drives and "spoof" the drive. Maximus Toolbox has a tutorial on how to spoof. to play it safe, i just bought another hitachi 78fk, flashed it with my 360 drive key, and it worked great. then, if you want to play backups you would then need to flash with the ixtreme v1.2 (or 1.4) firmware.

ahh rght ok, if its any other hassle id probably jsut get another 0078fk drive like you.
but il wait for my discs to arrive and if the backups work fine then il wait for the drive to burnout before i buy a new one.

hey,
it seems to be fussy on certain games.
i mean, my original fight night 3 disc is a bit scratche dand whenever it loads my drive sounds like a printer with a clicky grinding noise going chk, chk, chk , chk quite fast and it now does the same with the backup.
i dont know why this is but either way il keep playing them as normal and just see what happens. if it breaks i'll probably buy a new drive.
what part of the drive would need replacing if i went through the route of repairing this drive?
