While looking for potential individuals to flash my xbox360, one guy said that the hitachi drives need a modchip and involves soldering. Is this legit? I asked him if this voids the warranty and he said it wont.
Is this true? I payed an extra 90$ on a 3year warranty from a retailer and i dont want to waste it if i know it was going to void the warranty.
depends on the hitachi drive. i believe the new hitachi 79fl drives need a modchip, which most certainly will void the warranty. if it is an older hitachi (78fk, 49 or whatever), you dont' need a modchip. either way, opening the xbo 360 will void your warranty. if you are careful with how you take off the "microsoft" sticker, you can make it look like you didn't open it...but i have to believe if they see a soldering job on the m/b, they will figure it out.
If your xbox was made that recently, and has a hitachi drive.. welcome to my world. Hitachi 79 drive. Means, we'd have to open up the drive itself, and solder a mod chip inside the drive. Then again, any modding of the drives requires opening the system, which would technically void the warranty. I intend to take the sticker off with a blow dryer, and put it on wax paper so that I can easily put it back if I ever have a problem. I am hoping people come up with a way to mod this drive without installing a mod chip fairly soon.
