i sure wish i could read these things myself, unfortunately i need a little help. anyway...for some reason i've been getting "missing file extension" errors when trying to run some progs, [that i use every single day] some anti-spy, anti-vir,reg-repair type stuff.
i sure can't think of anything i may have done to cause this weirdness, and re-installing programs every time i want to run one seems a bit extreme.i did run AVG free & spyware,Ad-Aware, & CC Cleaner[but not in safe mode]before i posted this log. any help or advice is totally appreciated.

When did you first notice the issue? After doing what? What does the error say and is there a code number? Or does it only just show, "missing file extension"
Your HijackThis log looks Good. Although, your running an older version. May want to remove that and download the new one.

Try running this: Start> Run> type, sfc /scannow
Reboot

thanks for the reply,

it started about 2 weeks ago. there are'nt any error msgs, just "file path missing". i have since re-installed some of the programs, and they work fine now, but some i can't find the discs to re-install a few of them, like a version of SURETHING CD LABLER that came w/ an old drive of mine. i'll probably never figure it out. i was'nt doing anything out of the ordinary when it happend or at least when i first noticed it.i also don't believe i can run "scannow", because i believe you need the system disc, which also happens to be lost at the moment. but i will get the new HJT version. if it continues to be a problem i'll post back w/ more info.

thanks again

Not a problem if sfc /scannow should ask for installation disc. This is a simple registry edit to correct this. Are you familiar with CCleaner? We can run that after we scan WinXP. Go ahead and attempt to run sfc /scannow. Let me know what happens. Have you ran system restore?

yes, but i usually don't save any reg/scan backups.and i've never tried to run scannow w/o the XP disc. if it can be done.
