can i update my wiikey from 1.2 - 1.9g directly before i update my console? whats the update for the wii at the moment..3.0 or 3.1

The way I did mine was to:

1) Update the Wii to 3.1U using internet (please note that if you intend to update from SMG then obviously it's better to install 1.9g first)

2) Update the wiikey to 1.9g (one of the mistakes at this point is that people do not let the install run twice - one for testing, and one for real. In fact you have to wait until you hear Homer's voice)

3) Use a GCOS config disc to turn REGION OVERRIDE back ON (This is done because after you install 1.9g sonehow you will not be able to access config dist, etc...)
