I got a 2nd had drive for my 360 and it ended up being one of those that scratches discs (get what you pay for), it works fine otherwise. I still have my old drive which i screwed up with a bad flash and it didn't have any other problems.
is it possible to replace some parts from the old drive into the new one to solve the problem? Both drives are hitachi 47dh so i think it should be possible, but i don't think is as simple as replacing just the laser part. If it is possible to do this what parts would have to be replaced?

If they're the same models, why not take the board out of the drive which scratches and swap it into the drive which has a bad flash?

i tried that and it didn't work. the laser or something in the old one must have been damaged as well.
i ended up putting the logic board and the laser of the new one into the old one. seems to work, but some games don't, might have been too scratched up by the drive, but that's another problem.
