Unable to connect yahoo messenger...why?

I've tried the "no proxies" option and the others as well but there's something I'm just not doing right...I'm using Windows XP with People PC internet connection. Can anyone help?

I should probably also mention that in the past I did have this program operational before I did a complete system restore(to factory settings) I'm able to download the program and even install it but after that when I try to connect with an existing account it will either not let me log in at all or it will say it's logging in but stay on that screen without actually logging in for as long as the program is on.
