360 Overheating and Cooling Questions

Hi,
I have not recieved my Xbox yet, but have read many reports that
they overheat. My question is which sort of cooling device should
I get besides the mega expensive water cooling,
I have seen pictures online where the intercooler had burned some
systems where it hooks into the power. Microsoft has a 2 fan white
stand one, also I've seen the crazy black stand one with all the led
lights, and of course the weird usb flexi-cable usb fan.
Can anyone please recommend a top quality fan. Maybe there are some
more out there I have not found or heard of.
One more quick question is it better to have the Xbox 360 set up
Vertical, or Flat like Dvd players??

I agree, I bought the same thing from Game Stop and it works GREAT, much better than a regular notebook cooler.

Hi, I was not trying to get instant advice. I looked all fans I could
find online. I just did not know which the best one is, and thought
someone with experience could help me out. As for threads I thought
putting in a new thread because there might be updated information.
As there are new fans, now how in your opinion is that rude.

Thanks for the information. The xbox I am recieving is actually the
Core Unit, so I doubt it will have any upgraded technology in it.
I just want to get the best fan to prolong it's life.

Hi,
I just bought the Intec Xbox 360 Glow Stand with Fan. The only
reason I bought this one is because it uses a external power source,
does not draw power from 360.
If I made a wrong decision or if there are any Fans with external
power supplies that allow me to lay the 360 Flat. Please let me know,
and I will cancel the order.

same size as the xbox 360. I could i use it by placing it behind the xbox 360??

Right, I do this. I use the Game Stop cooling system (you put it on the side) and lay it horizontally on a laptop cooler (I got one at Buy.com for $8 shipped). Then use a desktop fan behind it (already had one) and lol so it's definitely kept cool. The key to all this is a AC-powered USB hub I bought at Wal Mart for $20, so the Game Stop cooling system and the laptop cooler do not use the power from the 360. You probably just need the game stop cooler and the fan, and not the laptop cooler, just saw it so cheap at Buy.com and decided to use it.

ill repost my solution to you::
If i could just post pics here id show you my awesome setup..
what i did was use the whisper fans.. since you need to complete the circuit what you can do is break off the blue leds and then just make a "c" clip out of the LED wire left behind.. insert the clip into where the LED was once connected and vaa--laa,(sp) there you go.. just do this to as many lights that you want inoperable and youre good..
Now, i then purchased a notebook cooler which is what my 360 sits on..
In addition, i purchased two PC cooling fans, connected them in series, and siliconed them to the gray grate on the end of my 360 (my 360 sits horizontal, a more natural position i feel to run dvd's.) To make things rock even more, I used an external plug-in transformer (like a cell phone wall charger with comparable output "V' etc....) to power these cooling fans..
Almost ready to bow yet, hold on.. I then took the factory fans that were replaced by the whisper unit and attached them to the back of my 360,(like the NYKO intercooler) and again attached those to their own external transfomer and my 360 ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.......... It runs cool ALLLLLL DDDDAAAYYYY LLLOOOONNNNGGG.....
+ i put in-line switches for all these fans so i can turn them on/off at my leisure...
let me tell ya,, SSWWEETT setup..........

lol believe me when i say that the worst thing on earth is seeing those 3 red lights, you feel as though bill gates himself ismocking you because you feelso badly cheated "well why get an xbox whateva if all they do is brake" said one 5 year old, whos dad had done nothing but support microsift against the PS2 but he 360 is a mess, if it had been delayed soem serious issues could have been worked out.

LOL I think you're a little concerned about overheating huh??? So let me ask you this, when you turn all this on, does all the power go out in the neighborhood, kinda like Clark Griswald's Chrismas lights???

But if it had been delayed, then the 360 would not have had the incredible one year advantage over the PS3 and killing it in total consoles sold. I do think they should give owners a free cooler or rebate to buy something to fix it.

another way to cool your xbox 360 if you live in the northern parts of russia, is to walk outside and throw it outside, come back inside and have a beverage. then go back outside and get it, plug it and it should be fine. And type of hardware failure is 3 red lights?

Also I've looked at notebook coolers and the ones I've seen I have
some fans where they would not be hitting the airflow holes.

That's what i'm saying, the notebook cooler fans don't hit the vents that much. I bought one bc I got it for $8 on buy.com (after google $10 off) so it's cool. Weird, the game stop link isn't there anymore. If you have near you, call and ask them. They are like $20 and you sit it on the side of the 360 so it fully covers the vent. But like I say, I wouldn't use the 360 power for it, use the computer or a AC powered HUB.
