I know...put the parental setting on. I should of done it. Can't believe he done it though. He says he thought he was using his acheivment points. yeah .....OK. I know better. Just hope others learn from my mistakes. Microsoft don't care if it was a mistake or a kid did it. They will do nothing. Oh well. Lesson learned. Just cancelled 4 xbox live accounts. after a year they will start losing money by not working with me...so I win..kinda

Honestly I don't even think kids should be playing on Live until they are at least 16 or maybe even 18, but that's me. Here's one more reason to add to that.

Yeah it is a lessons learned for both. If he sells his Xbox 360 and a few of his games he should be able to pay back the 400.00 Gonna make chrismas interesting getting a bunch of 360 games right after you have to sell your 360.

Credit card was on file on the xbox live account for the monthly fee. Did not know you could just click a couple times and it would charge your card. I would suggest not putting a credit card on file at all and use the live cards at wal-mart. I have 6 kids. Can't watch everything they do at all times. But I can ground them for a year give them 5000 sentences , sell all thier stuff, tell their girlfriend they watch Strawberry Shortcake every morning and replace their cable tv in the room with a repeating emergency broadcast system announcment thats loops 24/7.

Awww, come on, don't make him his 360 and games, just think of all that money you paid for it and you will be lucky to get half you paid, esp if you sell it to Game Spot and then you will be lucky to get 25% of it. Then you will lose not only $400, but all that money from buying the 360. Just make him work it off and do chores for the next 5 years and then it'll be ok.

How old is he/she?
Old enough for a job? Make them give you half their pay every time, Selling the 360 and games is harsh and just a money hassle, But hiding or banning them from playing the Xbox (or their favorite pass time) works best.
If not old enough for a job, Goto his school and demand extra work for your child.
Might thank me for telling you that, Wish my Dad did that. I Wouldn't be such a failure :P
It motivates your kid not to do things like that or try and be sneaky and also gets their brains working. Make sure you told him/her that you've done it too and warn if something like this repeats it will get worse.

Ebay his 360 and games and it should be close to paying it pack and maybe he can get another one later. You're a little at blame to for leaving the credit card on there. So paying the difference seems pretty fair to me. Even if you didn't know you how Live works with credit cards you should looked into it. It a valuable lessoned for the both of you.

First did your son use the points if not try to call M$ and tell them what happend and see if they can refund your money,and take that card off the 360 and go to the store and buy prepaid cards,for live next time

Yeah microsoft said they will do nothing about it. In no case will they refund for points they say. Even if the card is stolen they will not refund but will recommend going through CC company. They are not such a rich company by giving money back.

Actually why don't you take up a claim with the visa company & see if they can do something,there's no reason why they should'nt so long as those accounts have'nt been activated,hang on a mo i'm pretty sure i saw somewhere on the live account thing if you cancel before times up your entitled to a rebate of the unused time,go check it out.

Thats a dumb idea to dispute it, the kid spent the money, not like some thief stole it and you are trying to dispute it.

Permission was not given to use the credit card,also there was negligence on microsofts part for not sending an email notifying him of said purchase,that's more than reason enough to make a claim for return of funds from the credit card company

But the person doing it was the son, not some stranger who stole it. I was a manager at Chase in college, I've seen this scenario a lot, you can't dispute it being a family member, or else you will have everyone saying their kids happened to buy that $1000 HDTV without permission. You don't know what you are talking about, you are trying to be After Dawn Perry Mason or Matlock, bu you are wrong.

No I have no right to dispute it. Truth of the matter is I should of known better. He is my resposibility and his actions and mistakes are mine. I will know better next time I hope. Thanks for all your input though. Just hope other learn from this.

I really don't want to be a poster lady. I'm a guy. The father of the child. But I did think it was funny the assumtion was that I was a woman. I'm glad I do not get that response in everyday life lol. As for the news I wouldn't want to be known as the dumass that gave full access of my credit card to my kid to play video games LOL. I'm a bit calmed down about it now and think he should probally be ungrounded as one of his christams presents and not have to sell his 360. Maybee just sell the LCD he is playing it on and make him play it on a 20" Black and white lol....yeah! Perfect =)

lol sorry man. Yeah, you are making very wise decision about it, not selling the 360 because you would have lost a lot of money on it so that would not have been good. I would maybe try your luck calling up the ladder at Microsoft, maybe you will get a sympathetic ear and maybe only have you pay half, you know they can easily do that for customer goodwill. Problem with that though, you just get the India calling center when you call Microsoft and it's impossible for them to do anything like that, as they follow the book to the tee. But if it was me, I'd call the main number at microsoft and just plead your case, I bet you will find someone to give you some discount. Just be like you buy a ton of games and the $400 will prevent you from buying more, a sob story like that. I worked at Chase and Cingular and we would give customer credit, so worth a shot.
