If someone were to download some copy protected mp3's from a p2p site and wanted to burn them to a cd-r as wave files for the cd player in their car and were unable to burn because of the protection, what program would they have to use to decode these files? Any information on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks

I meant to say downloaded wma files, not mp3 files.

Just letting you know, they tried soundtaxi,[trial ver.] but it would only covert the first 30 seconds of each track. They uninstalled it and downloaded Switch and gave it a try but when they tried to convert a wma to mp3 they were informed that because the file is protected by DRM it was unable to convert. Is there a way around this problem with a free program. Thanks

Short answer: No. Slightly longer explanation: WMA files that deny the ability to play without a valid license are licensed to another computer. There are several methods to obtain the encryption key for licenses assigned to your own computer and remove all protection, but since you downloaded the files from a P2P, there is still nothing out there that can recreate the 'unknown" encryption key.

don't know anything about Switch, yes the soundtaxi thing is a short

bought it if it didn't work........

i don't know anything about p2p site's ect.

the only other thing i have seen is something about Fair Act program
but didn't look any futher since soundtaxi worked for me.

i would Google it.................
