How do you mod Halo 2's terminal?

as i was about to add on the new maps for halo 2,including terminal, backwash, ect., i saw that there was a halo update. will this kill the mods? if so, how do i apply the maps without using that update? do i just copy the add on disk and copy the map files to the map folder in the xbox?
