How to update wii and wiikey correctly

I have just finished installing wiikey...... originals and some backups work.....Console is Pal 2.1e and i have not run or updated wiikey yet.

Can someone show me the correct way to update console and wiikey, ready to play all backups.

Go easy plez new to wii modding

The way I did my Wiikey is as foolows:

1) Updated my Wii to 3.1U on the Internet

2) Installed Wiikey update 1.9g Beta Hotfix

3) After the 1.9g update, I used a GCOS config disc to turn the REGION OVERRIDE back ON

That was it. The I ran SMG which worked just fine. I have been able to play everything.

Reversing steps 1 and 2 works as well.
