I wanting to (after I am done burning a new dvd) print color images on the dvds, what would be a decent printer to do this on. I don't konw any thing about these kind of printers so any help would be nice. (I don't really want to spend any more than $150)

I have the Epson R220 and it works like a champ. Bought it about a year and a half ago for around 80 bucks.

jay33: Go on over to ebay and see how much our R-200 and R-220's are fetching. New ones going $140,which is twice what I paid for mine.3 times as much as what I paid for my Dad's R-220.
RIOT08: That looks like a fine and very fast printer,but the ink is going to cost considerably.
Check all your local Brick and mortar stores: Staples,bestbuy,office max,office depot. Maybe they got one of these older printer laying around on clearance.
The Epson Stylus Photo R-200/R-220/R-300/and R-340 are very fine printers and the Ink carts can be had for $10 a set at meritline.com when ordering 8 sets at a time. Continuous Ink systems can also be placed on them. Because of the very cheap ink,it will save a lot of $$$$. That is why I bought another epson dvd printer at ebay for total of $80. The R-300,not even a scratch on it,and never printed a dvd/cd on it. Cost me $85 and well worth it. But they had some decent ones running $65
They also had quite a few brand new ones. Those ebay sellers don't even realize the potential of these epsons.They'll get a new pc budled with a printer,and then sell their epsons.I saw a lot of fine printers last week.
If you go that route:
1) Stick with a seller with a low number-no major sellers.High numbered sellers (Power Sellers) = Refurbished equipment.
2) Make sure they have a very good feedback %.
3) Make sure it comes with everything that it's suppose to:
CD/DVD printing template,along with the smaller template for minidiscs.
4) Ask them questions about what all comes with that printer because they will forget about the cd/dvd templates.
5) Look at the picture carefully.
Make sure that epson printer comes with:
Epson Print cd and the drivers installation disc
USB cable
Power cord
There's lots of epson printers at ebay that are well used,missing parts,empty ink carts. I saw a broken one going for $45

I've been using the Epson RX580 for over a year now and it does an outstanding job. I believe it was $160.00 US.

Im using a canon i4300, and am really happy with the results, although replacement copy cartridges are a pain to get and use, cos you have to bugger around with the chip,and whether its a pre or post april 2007 model.I would personally change to an epson, but i have way too many covers in the canon format to change

Just curious what the differece is in the pre or post april 2007 model.I have the US i4300 coverted over to print disc did they prevent this with the latter version's?

What is the drawback on the Canon chip? I seen that about the chips when checking out the prices on cartridges. if going Epson I'd stick to the 200,220,320,340,printers.The carts for my 260,280,& 580 are expensive. The main reason I've been looking at the Canons. chris

No cheap 3rd party ink cartridges are chip reseters.You can disable the ink monitor warnings and reuse the chips on a Continuous Ink Supply System like i did but you have to keep an eye on the tanks because you loose the use of the Canon low level ink warning monitor and risk burning up the print head.Some people refill the Canon cartridges in the same way with the same problem.It's kind of a hassle if you can find an older model IP3000,IP4000,IP5000 that use no chip than cartridges run about $1.50 each.

When they work yes they have there problems though.I put mine on the shelf just got tired of fooling with it and bought another used IP3000 off Ebay.

Problem with the 280 it takes the same carts as the 260, #1 their expensive,#2 the 260 & 280 are fast but they also suck up the ink faster than the 220's 340's etc.T_Outlaw how do you come up with carts @ $6.00 a piece or where? Chris

You can sometimes get them cheaper on Ebay. but I've ordered from these guys for the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. They also have low cost catridges for Canon and Brother printers.
Also, check out Ebay for a CIS (continuous ink system) for your Epson printers.I had one on my R200 and bought my ink by the liter and averaged around $.70 per catridge refill. I have them now on my Canon i560 and i850.

dizzyduck they also have the wrong chips for the 260 etc. I'll find the other dicussion with the links of all the companies tried so far. Epson won the battle against other co. selling compatible carts. On the 260 & 280 theirs a 1, 2, 3rd generation of printers. Also if you pull a Epson cart out thats half full and try to reinstall it the printer won't accept it. 4th post down by headcase at this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/595443 and stores bought from. ChrisC586... I have been using Meritline.com for my ink needs ever since Abacus went ballistic in their pricing. Believe the present price is $5.16 for the R280. Presently using the R200, and it's been going over three years without a hic-cup. The ink runs $18.76 per complete set with shipping free. It takes about six to seven months of moderate printing before getting an indication of one of the cartridges getting close to ink exhaustion. Use a different setup and printers to do photo and camera work. Think Canon does a better job in this.

I have the 200,220,340 580, 2-260's,280 and i get my ink for the 200,220,340 for usually about $2.25 a cart between Meritline and supermedia whoever has the sale usually 48 carts at a time, but the 260 & 280 & 580 all the carts I've bought have been sent back for incompatibility. All the stores have admitted a problem and credited me with more carts for the older models.This company only lists 3 carts for the 260 and I would venture a guess their incompatible too. http://www.everydaysource.com/epson.html The older models still print fine but are slow compared to the 260,280 & 580.Epsons trying to make up for the money they lost in the lawsuit for the printers that stopped printing with ink still in the cartridges. same as the reset on their sponge. What gets me is you can walk into wally World or staples and buy the 260 or 280 for $50.00 and a spare set of cartridges will run $90.00! Chris
