SMG worries me =/ help?

Hi. ok, my problem is this.

I have read alot of topics about SMG having some new update that will instantly brick your wii the moment you play it. i just got my wii today with a SMG game and a WIIKEY installed. and so far, i'm the one who's bricking it. i have been staring at it for 20mins now and my question is, is it safe to play it? will it brick my wii? is it safe? is it hard to play it? i have read alot around the forums about just needing an update from wiikey. but my question is this, is it safe to play? what do i need? i'm 35mins new to this.
