I'm seeking recommendations for Windows software that can batch convert common movie files (wmv, avi, mpeg, etc) to series of jpeg files based on the frames in the movie.

I'm not looking for screen capture, or saving one frame. I want to be able to use the software to point at some files, and it converts the entire movie to a series of jpegs with sequential names.

Any recommendations? My Google searching has not worked for me this time.

For AVI files, use 'VirtualDub', load the file.

Choose 'File' > 'Export' to get numbered sequence.
The job can also be saved and run as a batch.

If the 'MPEG plugin' for virtualDub is installed, MPEG files can also be loaded and exported as image sequence.

MKV files can be loaded into the variant 'VirtualDubMod', then 'file' > 'Save as image sequence' selected.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've downloaded both and I'm trying them out. I am using the save as image sequence choice but when I click the okay button nothing happens. I am getting the feeling that all I've done is define the sequence and that I have to push something elsewhere to make it go. I just have not found it so far.

'Video' > 'Full Processing Mode', then save.

BTW, if you only want every 100 frames, you can 'Video' > 'Frame Rate' and 'decimate'

Thanks for the help. I have it working now.

One problem remains. Neither of these programs can convert WMV files to jpeg. Is there another program you would suggest. It doesn't have to be free software. Just not super expensive.

I tried Video to Images and it's very easy to use. And I'm going to try to learn more about virtualDub.

Thanks for the tips!
