burn regular data onto dvd r ??

I don't have a dvd burner but I want to get one for somebody for christmas ... and I am wondering if they will be able to use it for not only burning dvd movies , but making data dvd's as well?

Hi newbguy,
Yes, you can use a DVD for data storage. The same program I use with my DVD recorder to back-up DVD movies also has a feature just for that. I use Nero 6.
