Ok, i'm kinda new at this.

I have an Unmodded PS2, with an external 80G Maxtor USB harddrive.

Can anyone tell me how to get my backed up games to work from my HDD?

Do i need a cd to boot to my HDD or can i get a program that will boot it automaticly?

If not what cd will. If so what program will i need?

Thanks for your time.

First off, you will need four things:
1. A PS2 cheat disc (Codebreaker, Action Replay MAX, or Gameshark2)
___I prefer Codebreaker. This is to copy from USB to PS2 Mem Card.
2. A USB device (digital camera, USB pen drive or USB stick, USB hard ___drive, or an mp3 player) Anything that you can copy files to on ___your computer, and transfer to memory card with your cheat disc ___afterwards. The camera would probably be best, since they are ___easily accessible, and cheap if you can't find one laying around.
3. A Playstation 1 disc (Only select ones will work. There are many ___that do, but probably most of them don't) Check with me or others ___in the forum to see which ones are known to work before you buy ___one. If you need to buy one, invest in a 4-Disc game that works, ___because you can use any of the 4. That way if one gets damaged, ___you will have 3 backups. I know that Final Fantasy VIII works, and ___it is 4 discs.
4. The necessary files in order for this process to work. You must ___have them converted to the format of your cheat disc saves. Then, ___all your files will exist as a single cheat disc save file. You ___can find everything you need at "http://www.sksapps.com". Or, if ___you like, I can provide the files already converted into one file ___and save you some time. "chandoggy@gmail.com"
Once you have everything ready, here's what you do:
1.-Turn on your PC.
2.-Plug your USB device into the computer's USB port.
3.-Explore the contents of the device.
4.-Copy the converted file onto the root of your device.
5.-Right-click the icon in your system tray to safely remove the USB ___device.
6.-If necessary, turn the device off.
7.-Unplug the USB device.
8.-Turn on your PS2.
9.-Insert cheat disc in disc tray, and close it.
10.Plug in your USB device in PS2's USB port (either one).
11.Browse the menu until you find the media manager/browser, memory ___manager, etc.
12.Select the USB icon when it is highlighted.
13.Find the file.
14.Select the file.
15.Select "copy to...", or "copy", etc.
16.Choose "Memory card 1", or "Copy to Memory Card 1", etc.
17.After copy is complete, reset PS2.
18.Eject cheat disc, and place Playstation 1 game in the tray.
20.You should see a white flash on the screen for about 1/4 of a ___second. If so, Congratulations!!! You can now enjoy Super ___Nintendo, Genesis, Turbo GraphX-16, Game Boy Color, Nintendo, ___Wonderswan, Atari 2600, Playstation 2, and other games. Also mp3s, ___DivX movies, JPG pictures, etc.
Once again, email me for details and if you have questions. I have all of the files you need, I will just have to modify 2 of them for your specific Playstation 1 game that you will be using. That will only take 2 mins, though.

Oh yeah, post a reply before you email me. And let me know what game you will be using. Make sure it is compatible with the Mem Card exploit, aka Independence exploit. I really recommend that you buy a used copy of Final Fantasy VIII, though. I have personally used that one already. As long as it is in good condition, it will last long enough for your grandkids to use it, too.

Something just occurred to me. I don't even know if you have a fat PS2 or a slimline. God, I hope it's a fat one after all that typing I just did. If it is a fat PS2, this will work. If not, you might want to get an AR Max cheat disc. It comes with it's own media player. You can use it to load certain programs, but those are very limited. I had a slimline first, then ended up switching to ol' chubby. In general, the older, chubby ones are so much easier to mod, and add hard drives to. I assume you have an old one, since you have a hard drive. Well, good luck.

hmmm... I'm sorry, but I know nothing about modchips, except what they allow you to do. I'm sure there is another post about this, though. I'll try and find something...

Oh, and you can always desolder the wires if you want to replace the chip, re-solder it, or whatever. You will only need to replace your PS2 if the motherboard is faulty, or if you don't want to spend the money to replace some other PS2 part. From what I have seen in here, though, many people are experiencing problems similar to yours. And another thing I have noticed is that all of these similar posts are regarding v7 PS2s. Is that which version you have? If you are not sure, and you can get to the browser screen, press triangle and read the Model number that it displays. Should be SCPH-X000X(X's being other numbers, probably starting with a 7). You will need to identify this so others can be of more help to you. If this doesn't help you, visit the Console/Playstation 2/ Hardware Boot section in these forums. That is where modchip questions are supposed to be asked. You will find alot more help there.

I'll check back and help more if I can. Good Luck!

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have resoldered the chip myself and it seems to be working.

It took a while for me to learn to solder with a steady hand but it's done.

Thanks again for all your help.
