Hello fellas, long time reader, first time poster. Now, I've never had much computer troubles myself so I've only ever had to wipe everything from my system once. My mothers computer is crapping out on her and we have no windows xp disk to resart from. She has a dell desktop. Back about 2 years ago i recovered my system without a disk by I believe holding f2 and f11 at the windows boot screen. However, i cant remember if they were the correct F keys or whatever else. If theres anyone that knows what Im talking about any help would be appreciated. thanks...

Try to explain what is taking place, step by step. Can't diagnose an problem without knowing what's happening. Your PC may need to be maintenanced, may be full of viruses, or both. In any case, we can usually fix this without an installation disc. What make and model computer? What Internet Security Suite? Is WinXP fully updated with SP1, and SP2? Do you have high speed or dial up Internet?

Her pc is loaded with viruses and trojans that hijack the system spontaneously and the problem has been getting considerably worse to the point where windows is having trouble being setup. It's a dell computer in the dimension series, way out of warranty. The computer to the best of my knowledge is running with service pack 2 and she's using high speed internet.

I was trying to say I once had a similiar problem, and dell told me to hold down certain F keys when booting up windows. Eventually windows cleared my hardrive and restored my computer to the exact way it was when I bought it. I was going to try this method for her but forgot the steps in how to do so.

OK, let's start with seeing what's on the machine. Then, I'll look over the log reports and show you how to remove the infections.

Download\Install SuperAntiSpyware Home Edition Free Version. http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html
Launch, update, run complete scan. It will list all/any infections found. Make sure everything is checked. Click next. Click finish.

Download\Install HijackThis. Run in safe mode. http://filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/ Just follow the programs instructions. Post the LOG report here.

Download\Install Combofix. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=134965 Just follow the programs instructions. Post the LOG report here.

Was this the keyboard procedure you did with the Dell technician?

The way to trigger the on-disk factory reset or recovery procedure: Repeatedly tap Ctrl-F11 just as the computer is booting up. That is, from the computer completely off, you can hold down Ctrl, hit the power button , and tap F11 every second or so until the Dell Symantec recovery process starts.

I see ddp(MOD)has arrived. He can better assist you with the system restore or system recovery procedure.
