Watching backups on dvd player

Why is it that at times some backups work perfectly on my dvd player & other times thru the movie or towards the end of the movie they start to lockup *freeze*

Quality of the disks you are using use tayo yuden verbatim or sony
or

Disc quality, burn speed, firmware and multitasking will all have some effect on the quality of your resulting burns.

Thx guys, I'm using TDK DVD-R & burning at around 4-8x speed.
Other than that I dont touch the computer while burning or reading is being performed. Also what is best to use DVD-R or DVD+R ??

Tdks are not top of the line media. I prefer Tys or Verbs. Either of the DVD formats will yield quality results. I always booktype the +Rs.

I usually burn at 1/2 the suggested disc's maximum speed. Some would call this conservative, but it works well for me and time is not a concern.

Another thing to think about, if you are getting problems at the end of the disc, is the size of your file when you back it up. Nero and many other programs use a size of 4400 which takes the data very close to the edge of the disc. If you change the target size to 4300, you will not burn to the last 1mm of disc. Using good media will help more than using this tweek, but you might be able to use otherwise somewhat crappy media, and get it to work by changing the target size. Its not always easy to find where you change this on all the different programs out there. Shrink and Nero are easy to change.

Thx MaxBurn. I use DVD SHRINK to read & encode then use NERO to burn.
I'll have to look up on how to drop the target size down so it wont take the burning to the very edge of the dvd disc.

In the main screen of shrink Edit->Preferences->Prefences Tab set drop down box to Custom and type in 4300
|

Actually Nero and Imgburn, with -R's, will burn to about 4,489MB = 4.38GB (2,298,495 Sectors and 2,298,496 Sectors). DVDShrink's default max size is 4464MB.

It may be available to burn on but the quality of the media will directly affect how well it will burn stick with 4300mb
|
