It has to be on Stand-by to flash

hey guys, not sure if this would be the right thread for this info but it might prove useful to someone

i had two problems with boxes this past week both genuine.

the first was that the front panel stopped working. no led's and no remote receiver, yet the box was still working with the buttons on the box (i.e ch up/down and vol)
flashing the firmware didn't help as it received the new firmware but the problem remained also a factory reset did nothing.

i un plugged the box for several hours but the problem was still there i did this twice, the second time the problem was still there so i held down all the buttons on the box and the display became active however when i let go it failed again the second time i tried this i held all buttons again. the display again became active i then let go of all buttons except the standby button and the volume up button , i held these for a further 3 seconds and the problem is gone.

the second box was more dificult. when powered, the display would circulate as usual then "----" would appear then instead of powering up, this cycle would repeat.

now im not actually sure what i did here but i'll try remember to help ye.

it would not take a flash because it didn't stayed powered long enough for the computer to recognise it.

i jtagged with sky max. skymax finished and i flashed the firmware but during the flash, the problem returned and flash failed

i tried this several times.

i then moved onto jkeys

i think that this worked up until flashing where the pc couldn't see the box. i started the flash and when it was searching for eurovox, i applied power to the box and it kicked in straight away however near the end of the writing phase the problem returned and it said failed.

i also tried this several times to no avail.

lastly, i disconnected the power supply board completely. when i re-connected the box was fine.

perhaps it was just this last step that did it... if so, im trying not to think of all the time wasted j-tagging.

i hope this is of use to someone else

if someone feels this post is in the wrong place, please feel free move it

Thanks for the info, seems to be many ways to fix this problem, sometimes it is just the C14 cap also.
