Hey guys. I'm rather new to XBox modding, but I'm trying to get my feet wet by fixing my brother's XBox, and I figure if it can't be fixed or I mess up really badly, I'll just buy a new one and a new modchip and start from scratch.

My problem is this: Any time we turn the XBox on, it does the green blurb, then shows the animation of the XBox "X" in red, and then at the bottom of the screen it says Xecuter 2. Right after that, the screen goes black and then horizontal lines run sporadically across the screen. After a few seconds, the horizontal lines turn white, and then it stays like that, and doesn't respond to anything. This happens every time we turn on the XBox, and I have no clue why.

We have a version 1.0 XBox but he doesn't remember what chip he installed. I don't have my digital camera on me otherwise I would host a picture of it, but it doesn't look like any chips found in http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips.php. It has all blue wires coming out of it, is glued to the base of the XBox not taped to the side, and is black, square shaped with rounded edges, and about 1/4 inch thick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Sounds like an old cheapmod.

It seems to be working because the xecuter logo is part of the bios.

Try checking all the wiring from the chip, but the fault sounds more like the hdd is playing up.. not loading the dash files or something similar.

If you locate the wire that goes to the d0 point (usually it goes under the board to a point close to the unused ram pads) and disconnect it, that will disable the chip and the xbox should boot to factory default.

I would usually try cold booting a slayers disk and repairing the evox dash (option 3? install just evox to C:) and see if that solves the problem as a first step with old chips which seem to be working.
