Hy I just recently replaced my DVD burner as it stopped burning, but it can still read, so I bought a new Lite-On DVD with the capacity of Lightscribing, so I wanted to know how to use this ability, I have Nero Premium 7, the DVD HW brought the Nero Essentials 7 so any help on how to will be highly appreciated, thanks!

go here, read the quick tutorials, download the lightscribe application and you'll be all set with Nero, you need the plug-in for lightscribe burning to work.

Signatures

These rules exist to make viewing the forum as pleasant as possible to all users. Even though you might think signatures with large pictures look cool, some might find them extremely annoying.

1. Text-only signatures should have at most 5 lines of text.

2. An image-only signature should be less than 50kb in size, and be at most 500 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.

3. If you use an animated picture in the signature, it should not be too distractive. Eg. blinking images or images with quick movement are not allowed.

4. If you want to use both text and image in your signature the image should not be more than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall, and you can use up to three lines of text.

1) You'll have to have lightscribe media. Avoid HP and get Verbatim.

2) You'll burn your disc first--before any lightscribing.

3) You want a folder where you can create your own artwork or download covers from many covers sites like these:

http://covers.box.sk/.

http://www.cdcovers.cc/
http://www.cdcoverz.com/
http://www.coveruniverse.com/search.php?q=doom&c=4
http://www.freecovers.net/browse/movies.a.html
http://www.customcdlabels.com/
http://www.generetic.org/
http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/index.php
http://www.lightscribecovers.com/

Some may work, some of those sites may be down.

4) You'll need a program to do the labeling:

Nero Express labeler
Sonic express labeler
Surething cd labeler 4 Se

I've used them all and pretty close to the same.

5) After burning your backup, turn it upside down in your litey. Then open up your labeling program, fish out the cover from your covers folder and scribe away. Should take 30 mins or so. If the quality looks poor, then there's an extra utility you can download to help clear it up:

you have to use lightscribe media to label them.yes you can use non-lightscride media but you can't label them on top

more info

Lightscribe(also known as Light Scribe) is the latest technology in labeling discs. Monochromatic text and graphics can be etched on to the surface of the CD or DVD. A Lightscribe capable burner and a Lightscribe DVD+R / CD-R will be needed to achieve the special effects.

A Lightscribe DVD or CD will chemically react to the same laser device that is used to burn your data in a recordable media. The results are often a nostalgic, yet highly professional DVD or CD. It's a safe and non-toxic procedure that results in beautiful and lasting covers for your DVD and CDs. Forget using adhesives labels and rushed scribbles with a marker, Lightscribe media will make sure your DVD makes a lasting impression.

@drakex
Those white top that you sound like inkjet printable - my favs. But you need a printer that prints directly to the disc for those - like an Epson R series or Canon.
IMHO they look much nicer then lightscribe.

drakex: Lots of different types of media out there. You've got the lightscribe, which will run about 90 cents each. Stick with the verbatim and you'll have less headaches later.

You've got the regular media which you use a sharpie to print on it. Then there's thermal and inkjet printable media.White/Glossy/Silver Shiny/ Regular Hub or full hub.

I've done all but the thermals, and the inkjet printables yield the best looking covers.

Thanks I downloaded and installed the Lightscribe template, I will go buy some nice Lightscribe DVDs... I will be honest, it sounds great and nice, but I am thinking I should have bought maybe a DualLayered DVD burner instead, dont know, think it would have been cheaper and more usefull XD

Still will give it a try as soon as I can, thanks to all!

I'm 99.9% sure your drive is dual layer.
Even my over 4 year old LiteOn is dual layer. That's pretty much standard now :)

at 70 cents each the Lightscribe aren't inexpensive. you can use almost three dvd-5(Taiyo Yuden shiny top) for the same price as one Lightscribe blank

Here's a free program that'll tell you what actual model # you got:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_..._identifier.cfm

Take note of the model # and enter that model here:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters

You can even get feedback from other peeps who have used that drive, what media works good, what works bad.

Plastic thing on top? I don't know. My benq 1640's have a clear plastic plate on the bottom-center of drive.

More than likely it is but open Nero and go to Tools>Nero Info Tool.
The drive tab will have checks next to each feature it supports.

You can also check here. Just type in the make and model.
