I'm not sure why you're getting that message. I ran the region free software, then I patched it with the brickblocker. The game runs fine, but I do get the Wiifit channel which doesn't bother me at all.

I have Wiikey 1.9g too. The original disc(J) did not work on my system, so I had to dump it to a file, run region free, then brickblocker.

Just want to throw this out there. I personally decided to just break down and get a Japanese Wii (unmodded). I play my Wii Fit on it, and play my backups and U.S. games on my modded U.S. system. This works perfectly, with no cause for worry. When Wii Fit eventually comes out in America, I will just continue using my balance board and will try to download the American version of the software. Assuming that the Japanese balance board is compatible with the American software...

That's exactly what I am planning to do minus the part about buying a japanese Wii

Thanks brido84. I have my modchip updated to play SMG, as I already gave that game a run through. I am actually more concerned about the actual controller itself. I found an import store that claimed that a modded Aussie system would be fine playing the Japanese Wii Fit. That would lead me to believe that the controller is compatible.

I had been looking for the link you provided for a while. Google wasn't bringing it up when I would search for it, and I somehow lost my bookmark for it. Thanks.

This is what your link said, "Original works with balance board. Game requires balance to work. SMG protection exists - ie. Error #001, Unauthorized device has been detected. Update will create duplicate channels."

I am guessing that by "requires balance to work" means that the actual person playing needs to have good balance to play it, and has nothing to do with the actual device. Kinda unnecessary info to add to a compatibility posting if you ask me but...

I will post my results here later. Wish me luck. I should be alright, but wish me luck anyways!!!
My imported Wii Fit worked perfectly (including board) on my modded 3.1J but SMG backup wont work (i think it's a bad copy though the boot screen was flawless in the wii menu). Mines is supposedly a GC2-D2C chipset, so i dunno the chip i got. i got my wii from china.

Hi Guys - I wonder if someone can answer this one please:

I know it's a while off for pal users to get the Wiifit game officially but when the wife gets excited about a video game - you gotta check these things out!...

Question: It seems everyone will be buying WiiFit because of the obvious need to use the balance board rather than (ahem) playing it via any other method. I have a Pal Wii 3.1e with Wiikey 1.9b (still don't trust the 1.9g update so want to stay at 1.9b preferably) and want to know if the original wiifit game plays on a 1.9b modded system in the parts of the world where wiifit is out. So- can any Jap users tell me if they're running an original Wiifit on their 3.1j / 1.9b equivalent systems or have you had to 'upgrade' to 1.9g? to get it rolling?

I bought SMG and played it on my Wii in the above state absolutely fine by the way so I'm hoping WiiFit will be the same deal?.

Bring the knowledge from the east......

My opinion is unique. Just like everyone elses.

WiiMomer: Hold it RIGHT THERE!! The wife is the worst person ever to listen to about getting a game. Well, not in all situations, but definitely with the Wii Fit. My wife was dying to get it. We got it, and I can count on one hand (without even including my thumb) the number of times that she has played it. I use it to help me see how my forms is when I do certain workouts, but she has never laid a hand (or foot) on it without my badgering her. It was her Christmas present, so I guess it isn't all bad.

There was also the DS.. another wifey-inspired purchase. With this one though, I am happy that she convinced me. My DS gets more playtime these days than my Wii does!!

Moral of the story, tell your wife to screw off, or make a wager with her. If she doesn't play with the Wii Fit at least 30 minutes/day for the first couple months after getting it, then she has to... well, do *something* for you!

WiiMomer: Glad to be of service. Speaking of which... I think I am going to go log some time on my Wii Fit after this post. Doubt that the wife will be partaking in the action though...

Ok, I have been stalking this thread for a while hoping an answer would pop up. But seeing people still posting Wii Fit questions with no definitive answer, means it is still as clear as mud. I was one of the many who had questions until tonight.

I recently fitted a wiikey in my friends Wii(US), updated the Wii firmware to 3.1U, flashed the Wii key with 1.3us and ran the 1.9g SMG update(I know I am such a nice friend huh!). Anyway his setup is exactly like mine now.

I forgot to mention to my friend about the possibility of bricking the Wii via out of region disc updates and the same night he went out and bought Wii Fit(we live in Japan) and performed the update on the disc and to my suprise it worked perfectly, no bricking, just a duplicate news and weather channel. I was shocked and told him about not updating anymore out of region games. But I was curious, and my wife really wanted Wii Fit, so we bought it too. I updated my Wii to 3.2U tonight and then performed the Wii Fit disc update and sure enough it works fine!

So the short version:
U.S. Wii 3.1U/3.2U with Wiikey 1.3 and 1.9g SMG. Performed update on original Japanese Wii Fit disc and it did not brick my Wii or friends Wii, only duplicate News and Weather channel. Game plays fine. The Wii Fit balance board is required to play the game!

I hope this helps someone out and clears the air a little.

Also Family Ski works on both of our systems, patched with brickblock and nonpatched versions both work.

does anyone know if a japanese version of wii fit has the option to change the language to english? i basically bought an original japanese version of wii fit to upgrade the firmware on my japanese wii as i was scared of trying mario strikers etc and bricking my wii, and was told upgrading using wii fit would stop this from happening?

im in the uk and bought a japanese wii because at the time i couldnt get a PAL one. Im happy with my japanese wii because so far all my games are usa or other region but play in english.

but anyway...

has anyone in the uk (or outside japan) bought wii fit and tried it? im wanting to know if the language can be changed from japanese to english?? i've searched and searched and there doesnt seem to be any answers anywhere to this question.

thanks

j600: Unfortunately, the answer to your question is a resounding "no." There is no English in the game other than the work "ok" and there is no option to switch languages. The upside is that there is no real reason to have English as the game is perfectly (almost) playable w/o any knowledge of Japanese. Sure you will lose out on some of the hints and bonus material, but the main game itself is playable if you have even the slightest bit of adventurous courage.

for US
just upgrade firmware to 3.1U & wii key 1.9g (not sure about other modchips)

get wii fit iso and run it through wii brick block 1.3...
then burn new iso with imgburn and play...

no updates are asked so therefore no duplicate channels and nothing is installed..

internet stuff all works fine also..
